I took in 3 bantams, Tiny Lil guys, early this year. They've grown with 13 pullets/hens & 4 adult Hens, of various, egg laying, breeds . There's a free Roo on CL that I would like, Want another batch of chicks to march down the mountain with Momma, like a couple years ago. (Lot of Sandstone...

Chicken keeping without coops or with mutiple coops

I picked out all sorts of chicks, last March. They all seem to mingle.:highfive: There are some red hens (?) that stick together but 2 of the 3 came from the same NON Free range farm. The 3rd one I picked up free B/C she bullied others, in a coop. Now they're ALL free range. No Coop. I haven't...

    "Best Nest Box"

I Agree with New2chicks; there will be lines for one place while others are left empty. IMHO and experience, they like darker areas to lay. Some days I find more in the old cat carrier on the back porch, more light, sometimes More UNDER the Front porch, less light. There's a place, Behind an...

Chicken keeping without coops or with mutiple coops

DON'T we KNOW that!! IMHO the term would be to CONTROL things, no matter their Bis or not!! IT SOUNDS GREAT to me! I'm alone, too lazy to build much. There is a NOT very secure hen house that was built, for them. It's Not easy to SEE from the house. Why I haven't trained them to use it...

Love it. They don't fly to the rafters? I wouldn't be talked into walking INTO the barn at Night, But...Sounds Great..:goodpost: This year is a mix of Breeds. 4 I bought as adults, early this year. 14 as chicks. The Free Roosters turned out to be Minis, Annoyed with That and a free bird...

Chicken keeping without coops or with mutiple coops

Not sure what all the fuss is about. In the past I usually have had about 6-7 chickens. With the exception of a playful puppy I took in earlier this year, Would miss maybe 3 a year, at MOST? I have 2 places, to house chicks until they are old enough to handle themselves outside. I live in S...

    Free ranging chicks

Out of 8 cats, varying ages, I have one, 13 mos old, that likes to chase the 4 mo. old Roosters. The Roos haven't grown much so I worry I may have some Minis? Are there such a thing? Anyway, Most of my cats, Love bugs most of the time, avoid the chickens. I try to keep an equine syringe...

    Full Free Range

I've had chickens on 20 acres, for about 6 years. This year I have the most chickens I ever, 21. Never had anything to hold them bigger than a 3-4 bird extension pen, they've always been free range. I rescued a Hound dog a few years ago. If she smells anything that doesn't belong on 20 acres...

Follow up: Just scored 3 free rooster chicks, supposedly hatched in May. THEY ARE SO CUTE!! Since they are so much younger than the girls, have them in the extension pen, becoming familiar with others. The Cranky adult hen is crabbing about newcomers...If the noisy old coot doesn't get back to...

I've been free ranging for 7 years? This year I brought home 14 chicks Mid to end of March. By Late April, I had them in a 5X8 extension pen during the above 60 degree days. Older hens, New Free Range Home

In late April, early May, a Kelpie puppy showed up. Tried to keep him tied up, but all seven of my chickens were killed. 2 roosters, 5 hens. To satisfy already established egg customers, I bought 4 laying hens, off CL. One hen has Feathered feet, 2 others are Red..I'll find pictures, post Bottom...
