Chick pipped, but not through membrane.

Alright, I read that post you linked me and it was very helpful! I looked at the membrane and it was yellowish, so it had dried out. I don't believe the chick was getting any air from what I could tell. It had tried to poke through in different spots so I believe it was ready to get air it just...

Chick pipped, but not through membrane.

I can't see veins on it, but it is a small area. It looks a little dry in comparison to a small chip that fell off when I moved it. How do I assist it?

Chick pipped, but not through membrane.

It must have pipped yesterday or today. But the first chicks hatched two days ago. As far as the exact date, I'm uncertain. Around 23-24 I assume.

Chick pipped, but not through membrane.

So I was letting a broody hen hatch out some eggs, long story short, because of circumstances I had to move the chicks/mother hen to a new area. Because of this the eggs that hadn't hatched by then were moved to the incubator. One egg has pipped but the membrane isn't broken through, just the...

Comment by 'Old Ben' in article 'The naturally good rooster'

I totally agree. My rooster was a practically perfect rooster, he did his job and he respected me enough to keep his distance, while not running away whenever I was around. And he crowed just enough to be pleasant and not annoying. Sadly I lost Cayde with my other hens to predators almost a...

    What breed, and how old?

Well I have one other photo of one of them, but it’s not a great one. They don’t seem to like me being on the same side of the coop as them. If this isn’t good enough I can try to get better pictures later but that might take a while.

    What breed, and how old?

So a few weeks back I got more chickens. Some of which are what was described to me as “old English bantams” but I got these from a friend of a friend so I’m not really certain what breed it is or how old. Not the best picture(was taken at night.) but it should be enough to tell the breed...

Rooster yawning and shaking it’s head.

He is new to me, but given I had lost all my birds I had before, and all the birds I have now came from the same person and relatively the same coop. He isn’t new to the flock. Here’s some pictures. I checked him for bugs, lice, mites and things. Couldn’t find any. He’s missing some feathers...

Rooster yawning and shaking it’s head.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have an existing flock to add him to. (Lost all the ones I had left to predators at one time.) All the chickens I have now came from a place where they were kept either in the same coop, or only separated by a wire fence.

Rooster yawning and shaking it’s head.

My silkie rooster is yawning and shaking his head (in that order.) to the point where he almost fell down. He seems to be eating well and drinking well, he’s about as active as the other chickens. He’s been sneezing some but more in the morning when I’m letting them out of the hen house. When I...

    Full grown silkies?

First off I apologize if this is the wrong section, I don’t know where this sorta thing ought to go. So, I got new chickens recently after all my remaining chickens from my first flock were killed at the same time. (Not really sure by what animal.) Anyway, two of the birds I got were silkies, a...

Odd bump on chicks rear, please help!

I’ve tried giving her wet feed that was in a baby medicine syringe,(don’t worry, never had medicine in it before.) giving her a few food and water drops at a time. But, it’s a struggle to get her to eat it even that way. I’m trying oatmeal right now, but even when it’s really wet I can’t get her...

    Chick missing top o beak!

Any other kinds of soft food other than eggs? Also, any tips for getting her to eat it?

    Chick missing top o beak!

Not really, I think it happened when the mother hen was still sitting on them. I’m not sure when she hatched compared to the others.

    Chick missing top o beak!

A chick has somehow lost part of the top of he beak. She can’t eat, and I’m not sure if she can drink either. What should I do? How can I help her? How long will it take to grow back?

Odd bump on chicks rear, please help!

Any advice for the one with the broken beak? I’m trying to keep that one alive, but he can’t eat on his own.
