I have 5 pullets - 2 were hatched in early October and are over 20 weeks, 3 were hatched in early November and will be 20 weeks next week and it feels like they are never going to lay. Just looking for some words of encouragement that they will indeed lay soon.
I have a 55 flowery, a crested...
Has anyone every had any luck sprouting the Pennington Black Oil Sunflower Seeds in the 40 lb bag from Walmart? I just bought some yesterday because they were much cheaper than ones I had seen in the pet store. I want to use them as sprouts and fodder but if they aren't going to sprout it's...
There is just general leaf coverage in my yard right now. I planted cover crop in a small area but as of yet it hasn't done much. I may have just been to late in getting it in. My laying chicks forage ALL DAY LONG. So there is something out there to search for.
After starting a cocci...
I also am able to ferment inside still so the freezing temps having bothered me any. I already ferment feed for my pullets, so I figured the more the merrier.
Well I figure, with the lack of info re: cornish cross and fermented feed I would just report my findings on here as I go. Anyone else can compare with what they've already done.
They were from TSC. I ordered online. It's partly my fault. I missed the post office's call yesterday. I was lucky there were at the annex for Sunday shipping or my chicks would have still been there.
Yes. After recounting it turns out they sent me 12 and I've lost six.
They were in the mail since the 28th of November and they stayed overnight in the postal warehouse with an overnight temp of 29 F. So yes. I am happy that I have six. I also think they have cocci so I am treating for that...
I got my tiny batch of cornish cross from the postal annex at 5 this morning. I lost 4 but hopefully the remaining 6 will provide a few tasty dinners. I am going to attempt to free range them. Any helpful tips appreciated.
Just from very VERY basic knowlege, I would imagine they don't get much "pleasure" from it from the lack of an actual organ that is touched. Wow, it is very hard to keep a straight face with this conversation.
I think that the only pleasure he would get would come just from natures need for him...
I was able to go get them at 4:40 this morning. One died before I was able to pick them up and then two more passed since getting home. I think just from stress. Everyone else seems to be doing good! Next time I will definitely be more diligent about tracking. Poor chickies.
My first broilers (CX) are waiting for me at the postal annex. They will be free range (as much as they can) and I would like to feed them fermented feed right from the get go.
Has anyone fed their broilers fermented feed? Any pros or cons?
I don't want them to have free access to food the...
The brooder is already set up and running. I am doing in in our unused walk in shower this time so I'm excited about that. Thank you for your well wishes.
