    New account

Well, since my original flock had all passed (story here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=463532) I decided to make a new account to match my new flock. I will no longer be using this account, and instead I will be using the username 'foREVer'

    Hen with FROZEN feet!

She is most definately the lowest in pecking order. They have food available at all times, but there is always a chicken guarding it. When she tries to eat, they will usually give a little peck, but she won't mind them and will continue eating. As soon as I brought her inside, she was eating, so...

    Hen with FROZEN feet!

Their coop is a 10x10 shed that is raised off the ground. There is about a foot of hay for bedding. It is not too drafty in there, and there is a read heat lamp along with a regular light in there. Their roost is a 2x4 running all along one wall, but some prefer to sleep on the bench. The hen in...

    Hen with FROZEN feet!

Well, this case is a couple days old, but I still need some advice. When I went out to my coop a couple of days ago, I spotted one of my hens huddled up in the corner. When I picked her up, she was nearly weightless, like the other hens have been bullying her away from the food. Her crop was...

    Vegan / vegetarian thread!

I want to start off asking that you excuse any typos, for I am using my iPod and the touch screen is quite difficult to type on. Anyway, I am wanting to go vegetarian. My reasons for doing so are that in am both slightly overweigt (by about six to ten pounds) and I am against animal abuse in...

Does sour crop *always* smell sour?

Just remembered how to tell the diffrence- if she isn't pooping, then she is impacted. If she is pooping frequently/regurlarly, then she has sour crop.

Does sour crop *always* smell sour?

Just wanted to add- be careful when trying to get her to vomit- she might get the fluid in her lungs. (Another mistake I had made with my hen who had sour crop...) I think it could be beneficial though... Look out for a purple comb and difficulty standing- these are signs that she got the fluid...

Does sour crop *always* smell sour?

I had a bird like that once, and it smells horrific. I had to keep the poor girl outside because my mother couldn't stand the smell. As far as it not smelling very badly, maybe the infection is just starting? If so, then you might have a better chance at saving her. But, it might also be a sign...

New Horse saved from slaughter (New spring Pics)

This might sound like an odd one, but I have always thought the name "A Little Piece of Heaven" would be kinda cool for a horse, and since his rescue, he has been all up in a piece of heaven in his loving new home Its pretty long, so you would need a nickname for him, though

    Calling all young musicians!

Quote: I considered playing the french horn, but my sister already plays it, and I don't think my mother is going to be buying any more expensive instruments soon

    Calling all young musicians!

Well, a little (Actually, a LOT!) about me... I am 13 and play the flute, guitar, bass (only a little), and keyboards. (Yes, I am female...) I have a cheap acoustic guitar I made with scrap parts from a few First-Acts and a Schecter Damien Elite FR electric guitar I got as an early Christmas...

How many Musicians do we have here?

Well, I play the flute for my Jr. High school band, and at home I play the guitar, keyboards, percussion, a little bass, and remix music when I get bored. Really the only instruments I am good at are the flute and guitar, but I have been plaing those for ages. I am really good at translating C...

What's the Quietest Type of Rooster?....if there is one

I have a bantam silkie rooster, and he is even louder than my larger-than-full-sized orpington rooster! If I were you, I would just look around craigslust, and when you find one you like, just ask the seller how loud he is

My one & only silkie egg HATCHED!!!!

You have to be careful because silkies have what is called a vaulted skull, making it thin and fragile. But, like SilkieTime said, don't worry about it. Very rarely have silkies actually injured themselves due to their skulls being that way. Congrats on the baby, by the way! Just TOO adorable!!!

Entire flock free to good home

Beth G. - From the looks of a map, it seems to be about 200 miles (give or take) away from the CT border.

    *** AUGUST HATCH-A-LONG come join in ***

It has a little difficulty, but it can stand, as well as lift it's head up.

    *** AUGUST HATCH-A-LONG come join in ***

I belive that the little splash chick I hatched yesterday is... ''special". It is deformed as far as how it's head feet, and neck are shaped. It is a little slow (still flopping around in the incubator) but otherwise healthy. I am not willing to cull it seeing that it is not in pain... but what...

Yolk sac still attached to chick...

I think I hatched out a "special" chick. It's neck is waaaay too long, and there is something wrong with one of it's feet. I am now in the process of making it some shoes.
