    Hens not laying

Yes. We have seen a lot of feathers. What causes molting so young?

    Hens not laying

My 8 girls are 1 year old in February and ALSO stopped laying recently. We live in Hawaii, so we don't have super short days. We are getting maybe 2 eggs a week right now. My husband is getting really upset that I've spend as much as I have and they layed for only a few months June - Nov and now...

    Do chickens lay in Winter?

Our 8 pullets will be 1 in February. All but 1 has stopped laying completely. 4 are molting. We live in Hawaii, so I really didn't expect them to stop. But man, we had a few months of amazing laying and then NOTHING. I actually had to buy eggs for the Christmas baking this week. Broke my heart...

    Molting & not laying eggs?

I'm in the same boat! My girls won't be 1 until February and 7 out of 8 are molting. We are only getting 1 egg a day. Our Black Copper Maran (who is a little older than the others) looks so pitiful it's kinda funny. They are all still very active, just losing a ton of feathers and not laying. We...

    2019 Newbie Chat!

Our girls are 15.5 weeks. They free range like pros now. We've seen some amazing battles with centipedes and B-52s (our giant flying cockroaches). Insect control was one of the main reasons we started our flock, and we are SO pleased. We are seeing a lot of red on faces and more fluffy butts...

    Flock/Life Journey's 2019

They were SUPER affectionate last night. But not like yours. I have BO, RIR, SLW, 3 EEs, WR, and a Red Sexlink. It has always been my DREAM to have a white cat. Your kittens are so CUTE!

    They Aren't Perching

It's along the back. You can see it in the pictures. Not too far off the floor.

    They Aren't Perching

We built a huge coop for our 8 pullets. They are 11 weeks old and all sleep huddled in the corner on top of each other. Is this normal? Or is something wrong? We live in Hawaii where the temps don't drop below 70 at night this time of year. So, the amount of open at the front shouldn't be a...

    Flock/Life Journey's 2019

I want a bird like this! All my girls run away until they are caught. Then they are fine being held. However, none of them go out of their way to be with us. :hit:confused:

    Flock/Life Journey's 2019

I would be absolutely LIVID and be doing something, ANYTHING, in my power to make the "sitter's" life HELL. Please tell me you're going after them legally.

    Flock/Life Journey's 2019

We built our coop for 8 pulleys with $600 in Hawaii (where materials are pretty expensive).

    So Much Poop!

We have pygmy goats. And they are SOOOO affectionate and wonderful. Because they are backyard goats, they have been pooping their pellets in the same grass my kids play in. I know it's really good for the grass, but I am trying to figure out a way to clean it up a little bit. Besides getting on...

    Any other hawaiians out there?

Audie, you're amazing. End of story. LOL My 3 year old is holding her RIR and she's a great little sport. No scratches yet.

Update from Newbie. . .9 weeks! (Pic Heavy)

Yes, we discovered this early on. LOL we've had to adjust the coop and keep the chicken feed in there. Thank goodness our feathered girls seem to prefer our yard for food.

Update from Newbie. . .9 weeks! (Pic Heavy)

Our girls turned 9 weeks old today. We are still so in love with this lifestyle and have now added 2 pygmy goats. LOL we won't be taking a vacation ever again. :sigh: The girls have been in their coop for 3 weeks and are so great. They free range all day and go to bed in their coop by...

    Any other hawaiians out there?

Well, on Oahu, it is legal to own 3 chickens. There are a few Bills before City and County to up that to 7 as 3 chickens can't feed a 4 person family. Also, there are a lot of backyard chicken families in old Ewa Beach. I'm pretty sure Gentry and Ocean Pointe/Hoakalei have rules against it. We...
