Bare, Messy, and Gross Bottoms! Please help!

Thank you for the input. I do agree that less is usually more when treating animals. The above treatments I administered occurred within about a month of first noticing the problem. I haven't done anything more for the past 4-5 months hoping they may just get better on their own...

Bare, Messy, and Gross Bottoms! Please help!

Good thinking, but I don't see anything on any of their vents that looks like a prolapse. I'm pretty confident that most of them are even still laying eggs.

Bare, Messy, and Gross Bottoms! Please help!

Yes, when I dusted each of them with the DE. I didn't see any, but a couple of my hens had slimy, wet, stinky tan stuff on the feathers on their bellies. Could that be from mites/lice or is it something else?

Bare, Messy, and Gross Bottoms! Please help!

I apologize in advance for the yucky photos below, but I am pretty desperate for help for my poor hens. I have about 28 in my flock. 17 of them are White Leghorns, and the rest are a mixture of White Rocks, Black Stars and Delawares. This problem seems to be mostly with the White Leghorns and...

    Injured Earlobe...please help!

I noticed yesterday that one of my girls injured her earlobe. I have no idea exactly how she did it since she is allowed to free range. I'm guessing that perhaps she may have snagged it on a barb of barb wire while going out to the wheat field, but I'm not sure. It's a little less swollen...

    Newly laying chickens laying EVERYWHERE!!!

So I've been keeping my big girls in the coup/run for the last few days and not letting them free range at all. So far, I've been getting 2-3 eggs....IN the nesting boxes!!! However, just today we heard one of our 18 week old Leghorn girls singing the "I just laid an egg" song on one of our...

    Newly laying chickens laying EVERYWHERE!!!

So I let the girls out around 4 pm tonight. One or two were singing the 'egg laying song' around 6:30 pm. We first heard one in front of the house...quick went out to see if I could find where she may have laid...couldn't find any eggs...then about 5 minutes later one was doing the same thing...

    Newly laying chickens laying EVERYWHERE!!!

Today was the first day I discovered that my 21 week old White Rocks started laying eggs. The first ones were under my girl in one of the nesting boxes (good girl!), but then I found one of my other girls had laid 3 eggs under my deck! I have a total of 23 chickens (not all WRs), and although...

Chicks in coop with old flock, ok, but when one gets in the run...

I just went through a similar transition. I had 7 older girls and then a friend gave me 17 more babies!! What I did that seemed to work pretty well for a few weeks was to section off a corner of my coup with some chicken wire and then I made 2 small holes on the bottom so that the babies could...

    Midget chicken???

Thank you so much for the replies! All of my chickens were purchased at a local Murdoch's. Her smaller size wasn't as noticeable until about the last 2 weeks. She seems to be doing just as good as my other girls so far. So hopefully she will be okay. Do you happen to know if the little...

    Midget chicken???

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that one of my 6 week old Delawares seems to be falling behind on her growth. Has anyone ever seen anything like this, or know what may have caused this? She is the one in the front. Behind her is one of her sisters who is the same breed and age. To her...
