It fell out while she was in the pond. I have oyster shell free choice and plan to administer calcium tomorrow. So far only one of the six has been laying ,this may have been her first. Hopefully tomorrow morning I will find two eggs with solid shells.
Thanks, I do have free choice oyster shell out for them. I didnt want to transition to layer feed since only one was laying. Should I make that transition?
Hi duck people, I frantically posted in the emergency thread this morning in the Hope's that the photo would be explanation enough, because at the time I didnt have words. I have since calmed down a think I can string a sentence together,so here goes. I have six cayuga that are roughly 6...
Hi everyone, I need a bit of help. Yesterday I noticed one of my ducks hiding in a freshly dug hole under a Bush, since one of them had started laying about two weeks back I figured this was her and that she was on a mission. Today I found the same duck in the same place but upon exiting the...
I am truly sorry to hear that he is still suffering. For the future here is another resource https://opensanctuary.org/article/common-duck-health-issues
I set up a 15×35 run with a 5x5 house for my 6 ducks. They get the run of the yard when I'm out, which is beneficial in so many ways. I set up a 50' run through my overgrown vinca and sedum bed that resides beneath the white oak and redbud so they can do duck stuff while I'm inside . If I am not...
I thought it was a drake. I've read that the drake feather is not always prominent in cayuga, so I would imagine that if indeed it is mallard and cayuga the saga might continue for a bit before you know 100%. That being said ,the color says Male to me
First of all, WOW!
That is a tough duck. I dont have much to offer that hasn't been discussed but vet or not,you may consider a duoderm or tagaderm style bandage to help control moisture and bacteria. I wish you the best of luck.
Just make sure you dont get the medicated chick feed. If you find something with too much protein like Turkey feed,it can be mixed with a variety of other food in order to lower the content. Rolled oats ,other grains etc...
The Ultimate Pet Duck Guidebook. Is another good one to have. I have spent what is probably considered too much time reading duckdvm.com ,not a hobby that I recommend but a good resource.
To be fair, I dont think ducks know much about Google either:) . You can find Storeys Guide to raising ducks, on kindle for around $6. It's worth having handy
I wish you all of the luck in the world!
Purina flock raiser, b vitamins, plenty of water for drinking and swimming.
Their metabolism is fast,so you might see improvement more quickly than expected. You are in the right place to learn .
Think of it like
I just mean change their feed. Purina flock raiser is well balanced for both ducks . No need to add protein to the feed, just take away the layena ,replace it with flock raiser and make sure they have plenty of water.
