~Cuckoo Maren pullet not yet laying about 24 weeks old
~I thought it was dead when I walked into the coop this morning. Laying on her side with her head down.

We got our ready to go nipple waterer set up from http://www.avianaquamiser.com/
I know they also sell DIY packs and the hard to find drill bit you need.
When I purchased some pullets from a craigslist ad she threw this older hen in for free because she often goes broody. She lays light brown eggs and is much bigger than my other full size hen a Welsummer/Astralorp cross. Any ideas on what breed or breeds she might be?
Just saw the Craigslist ad for the Swap!
I have:
Homemade cooler incubator (used to hatch my eggs this spring)
2 EE's - just started laying light brown eggs this week
Small chick waterers
Looking for:
Blue egg laying EE's
Chocolate egger
I hatched a group of mostly EE eggs and I'm wondering if this is a barred rock? The chick is two weeks old and is beginning to get striped looking wing feathers. It appears to have a small dot on the back of the head.
What do you think?
My EE chicks are a week old now and their wing and tail feathers are growing in. Is this the color that they will stay? My favorite chick has such pretty wing feathers I'm hoping that this is her coloring!
As a newbie chicken owner it's been nice to see how much the feathers grow in. I'm always looking forward to the next step of development. My chicks are only a week old and I can't believe how many wing feathers are already there!
The teacher is thrilled to have them since they are currently teaching about farm animals.
I've waited until the chicks were at least a week old and plan on taking them in a plastic tub. They will be away from home for less than an hour....do you think I need to bring the heat lamp to set up...
Today was the day I was going to crack open my unhatched eggs and see what happened. I took the first egg out and realized there was a little beak sticking out the bottom. One of my ducks tried to hatch upside down and was stuck in the egg carton and couldn't zip.
I couldn't open anything...
Day 24 here and 9 of the 16 eggs hatched! I'm considering that a successful first hatch. Here is a pic of our babies, I think the lightest one is a Roo already the way it rules the brooder!
