Good to know! Yes I think this hen wasn't handled at all growing up unfortunately. She isn't scared of me being near her, but hates being touched. She is also very aggressive and dominant in a flock. I have had to remove all smaller hens because she has seriously injured them.
Hello! I would love to see some more docile less dominant qualities, she is very feisty and she is not a lap chicken. I would love some chickens that will let me pick them up, pet them, etc.
Hey guys!
I have an awesome sapphire gem hen, she is two years old. This winter she has remained laying every other day and sometimes even twice a day! She’s free range, I don’t use lights on her. All natural!
I want to get her a rooster so she can have some babies and continue the awesome...
Hey y’all! I recently adopted a beautiful hen, owner said she was too dominant and never got along in the flock. I’ve had her a few weeks now and I love her!
As of yesterday I’ve had to take in a 4 month silkie. I hatched this one and the person who took it can’t have it any longer. I put the...
He came from a light blue normal sized egg...he was hatched along with 6 other eggs that were brown and green. It was a barnyard mix which may explain the lack of knowledge here!! Thanks again for your expertise.
Thank you!! So another note, the egg he came from was a normal sized egg. I hatched Silkies a month after him and those eggs were so tiny compared. Do you think the egg size changes this?
I hatched this chicken back in August 2019** . Based on behavior I think it’s a rooster but who knows. Apparently he’s a mix, but of what? Feather black feet, green eyes. Pictures included.
Hey guys!
My Silkies hatched about 3 days ago, I’ve got a runt who had some crust on his bum so I wiped it clean. I then noticed what seems to look like a prolapse? It’s a tiny pink bump under his cloaca. I’m guessing it’s where the yolk was absorbed? It looks like his innards are poking out...
Hello all!
My chicks are about two weeks old. I have three that I hatched in a Brinsea incubator, they live inside in a brooder with fresh pine shavings, medicated feed, and lots of water. I noticed each of them will sometimes have very foamy watery poop, but sometimes it’s solid! Is this normal?
hello!!!!
So back around week one I dropped an egg while candling it, the air cell area of the egg cracked! I was sure it was just going to die but then I read you could save it. I painted a thin layer of water/Elmer’s glue on the cracks. Now it’s in lock down and it’s been rocking back and...
