I’m honestly not sure, hence my original post lol! We have also wondered if there is polish mixed in ourselves though. That said , all of my “show quality” silkies have such beautiful full crests. We don’t have any silkies that weren’t hatched from show quality eggs from my pet chicken. I...
I am really quite smitten with this little one! I did not think it was a roo, however. If it is we may be sending him off as I have 3 that work well with my flock, but we got one from day olds that’s a roo ( was supposed to be a hen) and hatched out at least one other of our own. 😑
I ordered show quality silkie eggs that hatched back in June. We ordered show quality silkie eggs in the past from the same place and got true show quality silkies from them. We do not show our chickens, but love the silkies so go all out on the eggs. Anyhow! This time we hatched 4. 3 are...
I only posted pics of one bird in this thread. Seems the general consensus is female, which would be better than a roo only because we already have 2 others right now! I suppose time will tell with this fluff ball ☺️
We purchased show quality eggs and our other silkie that we lost was gorgeous as well!! Different color-partridge I think-we had named it Rusty, because of the coloring and planned to change it if it ended up a female. We didn’t know the gender of that one either lol
We’ve never heated our coops, just the water so it doesn’t turn to ice! Sounds like you have a nice little farm as well! We also have a large covered run- it is connected to all of the coops-not the barn-and we have dividers for introducing new chicks, etc. we keep them all in the run when we...
I can’t believe I waited this long to get a silkie. I’m so in love with them now and plan to get more hatching eggs in spring! I would love a splash and a white pullet! I would also love a partridge. We have 3 coops (2 large, 1 small for separating if need be) and a barn so plenty of space...
I’ve always ordered from My Pet Chicken and have had great success with their chicks. We’ve had chickens since 2011/12 (?) and have ordered dozens of hens through the years and the mottled Cochin bantam is our only sexing error with them! Currently we have 14 laying hens (all breeds-speckled...
I did post a pic above of the comb! Those white streaks in the 3rd pic are what look like streamers to us. They are distinctly different from the poof! I could be wrong, but not sure what else they would be?
What makes you say partridge? I thought partridge was brownish? Ours is definitely...
I trimmed the fur around his eyes the other day, but I don’t think I did a very good job. I was afraid of trimming too much and making a mess of the poof, but he can’t see very well so I will do a little more!
Funny enough we ordered 6 female bantams that were delivered in September since we...
We hatched silkies early this summer for the first time. We’ve had chickens for 8 years, but first time hatching and first silkies! We didn’t have a good hatch rate and out of the 2 that hatched we sadly lost 1. That said, we have the most beautiful blue silkie (I think it’s blue... do...
