    Hello From Portland

Welcome and congratulations! I hope you are settling into your new home and your flock as well ;) Sounds like you are doing a great job creating a nice space for your pullets. I am quite new to raising chickens also and I can honestly say, BYC will be helpful for sure! There are many people...

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

Thank you so very much! Your advice and guidance was so very helpful and kind of you. That is brilliant about checking humidity requirements for my area- I wouldn’t have thought to do so... I had a rough start in the beginning when I set eggs to incubate in a homemade incubator only to quickly...

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

Thank you so much. No, we lost our beautiful Silkie Roo, Pearl, to a hawk a couple of weeks ago. So I attempted to hatch about 24 eggs to start and this little one was the sole survivor. I was so hopeful because it seemed to be doing well and made it this far. We’re heartbroken. But I tried my...

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

@Broodermy, @BaaKaaawk, @Tycine1, @SunriseChickers, @Lilalienangel UPDATE: I just wanted to thank each and every one of you lovely people for helping me this morning. There’s still good in this world ;) Unfortunately, this little babe didn’t make it. It turned out that the bum was sitting at...

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

I don’t think that went too well... I am heartbroken. It turns out his bottom was located at air cell end of egg and when outer membrane tore it started bleeding, must’ve been stuck to inner membrane. I stopped it with cloth, then I slowly chipped away at shell until I found his beak and sure...

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

Does it matter if the membrane is broken anywhere because I can’t see where head or beak is currently.

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

I think I’m going to wait just a bit. I’m not confident to open the membrane with all the veins I can see. Is there a point that is obvious when to intervene further?

Assisted hatch - veins full absorbed?

Hello! Did this little one make it? I’m in the same situation and panicking!

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

I see a lot of veining still on inner membrane. Am I puncturing the outter membrane only in attempt to find his head?

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

Thank you so much for your help. I will try and feel for the beak. I’m worried it may be malpositioned. I can only see a dark blob, no legs, eye or beak. But I will try!

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

I can just see movement that is more like breathing, the membrane will expand a bit and retract. There is no internal pip and I can’t feel or see a beak. I honestly can’t make out what I am looking at.

    URGENT: Hatching Emergency!

Hello, I’m new to backyardchickens and new to hatching. I am currently panicking. I set eggs on 9/24. On Sunday evening, 10/13 with one surviving embryo; I set for lockdown. When candling, embryo was doing well and had beautiful healthy veins but appeared to be in the small side. Hatch date to...

    Chickens bringing Peeps together!

Thank you @ValerieJ I’ve been having trouble identifying what day we’re actually on. Today should be day 20 but we had a rough start in homemade incubator, then switched to auto incubator. So I believe development was delayed. I would hope and assume that within the next 2 days?
