    What hooked you on chickens?

I love to see them come running to me. I can almost see the excitement in their faces. It's a full speed dash to see if I have any thing for them to eat. They are like kids! Carol

Gross finding in nest box. Gross pictures

:o I've seen gross egg pictures on this board, but this took me by surprise. It was like a blob with no shell. When I tried to scoop it out of the nest box it fell to the floor but was firm enough not to break open. I put it in a dog dish by using a stick. It wasn't runny at all, but like...

    too cold to lay eggs?

Hi, Does the cold weather slow down egg laying? I was getting 6 eggs a day, but now I'm only getting 2-3. Also, the guineas I guess are hiding theirs, I haven't seen one in about 3 months. Carol

    green food items

Yes, we've seen our chickens eat snakes about 8 inches long. I've seen them kill mice, mostly babies, but an occasional adult, only they couldn't swallow it. That's why I like them to roam around my house, for bug, snake and rodent control. But their droppings are everywhere and huge!:o

    green food items

My chickens seem to want to eat grass and leaves if no grass is available. When I first let them out they would jump as high as they could to get the few green leaves that dangled into their pen. I started pulling grass for them and they went nuts in it. Loved it. Later when I started...

    injured chickens

Yes, we are going to keep them apart. I am going to re-install sometype of netting or fencing over the chickens area and my husband thinks that getting the donkey "fixed" will help reduce his aggression;). Carol

DONKEYS. Are they a good defense?

We are thinking it is because he is a young male, (teenage) donkey. My husband thinks if we get him fixed that it would help. (too much testosterone?) No matter though, I'm going to cover the top of the chicken pen again so they won't be able to get out. Carol

    bunches of eggs

My eggs last quite a while in the fridge. I take cartons full to church and give them away. But lately people have started buying them for $2.00 a dozen. They won't take them for free. It's my egg money! Carol

DONKEYS. Are they a good defense?

:mad:Our donkey has been killing the chickens! He stomped one to death, broken the wing on one hen, almost killed another but by the time it got away it almost had a broken leg and other injuries. Our donkey is a male and doesn't like anything in his part of the property.

    injured chickens

Hi, I'm so frustrated and mad about this. We have a donkey that always stays pretty much next to the chickens and dog run. He is very protective of his territory. My hens like to roam the front and back yard but also venture out to the pasture next to their cage where the donkey is. He...
