I had a broody chicken start sitting on eggs about 6 weeks ago. It was in the coop so I didn’t notice it until she was on it for a while so I thought I’d let her hatch them. Then about a week later another hen went broody along side the first. We eat our extra chicks we raise so I figured no big...
So I have one of my chickens (flock of 13 hens 1 roo) who is pooping wet poops. I treated with Safeguard and there is still one pooping the runny poops.
Thoughts - advice.
Thanks
Is this poop a cause for alarm? Three weeks ago I had a Rooster get sick and die. We tend to have these poops off and on. My chickens free range so I’m not sure if it might be eating to much protein or something I really need to worry about.
Any thoughts and experiences appreciated.
I just wanted to put this out there for thoughts. I bought a bunch of chicks from Bresse Farms - splash, blue and black Bresse I supposedly purchased. I got mostly chickens that looked dirty (like a filthy white Bresse - yellow tinted feathers) or that looked like a dark chickens with white...
I bought some chicks from a local feed store and I’m not sure what kind of roosters these are. They don’t seem to be kinds i bought. Was wondering if anyone can help identify the breeds. I think they get the chicks from Ideal hatchery if that helps.
I especially don’t know the breed of the one...
I’m glad to be back to having some chickens post move. I’m building everything new mobile. I hated leaving my last custom coop when I moved plus I can move them around this way.
I’m about to go dark on here for several months while we move. Since we’re starting our flock over I’m reevaluating my breed or breeds I want to keep. I’d like to hatch my own keeping roosters for meat and ladies for laying. My front runners now would likely be Bresse or perhaps red rangers or...
This guy was a surprise chick from Murray Mcmurray. Any idea as to breed? I’m not taking him with when we move but my wife really likes him so I’d like to get one later. He does have feathered feet.
So we decided to move. We are most liked going to sell our house and move to a large property that we are getting a hood rent deal on. So I have decisions to make.
We have about a 35 chicken mixed flick.
#1- do I take any of my chickens. I wound up getting Mareks disease in my flock so I started...
I believe we will be selling our house and moving in the spring. Still deciding on that but since we could be in rethinking what I will do different the next go round. I’d like to have a flock I breed with the intent of raising and eating the roosters but keeping the hens for eggs. I know Red...
I have a 4-5 month old Narragansett turkey. She often will jump up on the run (about once a week) so I have to grab her and put her in the coop.the last few times I grabbed her she really lost a lot of feathers. Is it normal or could she be moulting? Thanks
I posted a few days ago that I stumbled across the fact that Fayoumi’s are resistant to Mareks. I was told that Naked Necks also are at least more resistant than others. Anyone have first hand experience with breeding and raising your own chicks with Mareks? My plan was to raise my own dual...
So I had given up on my plan to raise my own birds from hatch because we wound up getting Mareks (likely came from a neighbor few houses away).
I was just reading Gail Damerows’ book on Chicken health and she mentioned Fayouomi are resistant. So would that mean I could breed my own without...
Just went out to do my nightly close up and found my Tom dead in my run. I have a haniging roost in a run made of basically cattle panels walls and roof. Approximately 16’x16’ area.
I think instead of sleeping on the roost he slept on a rock near the edge and a coon got him. It looked like his...
I’ve raised 3 brooders full of chicks without a quick chick and only lost 1-2 chicks per. All adult birds looked good (except the Mareks thing). I now have raised 2 batches with quick chick and I lost none in the first batch and 3 in the second. So am I waisting my money? Does Apple Cider with...
So 95% of my eggs are just clean. Then there are those days someone pooed in the box which happens. Then there the days every egg in every box is filthy. Just wondering why some days all my eggs are dirty in all the boxes. It doesn’t appear to be rain specific. Do chickens have stomach cycles or...
I noticed that almost always there are people wanting to know gender of chicks. My question is for those who have asked those questions - how accurate were BYC guesses?
I just saw my rooster catch a cicada and cluck for a hen. He then dropped it for her to eat. I never observed this before but later that day he was doing the same thing with grass that went to seed. He called the hens over and let them eat. Cool to see
