Hello!
My hens have always gone to bed by themselves, however; last week I cleaned their coop and now they sit on top of it until I put them away. I used newspaper to line the bottom and the same hay and shavings, so I don't understand what their problem is. It's starting to get cold here and...
When my hens go into their coop for the night, do I need to put food and water in there with them? It seems like they don't touch it until I let them out in the morning.
I already asked my husband to give the rooster a "man talk" about how to get the ladies, but for some reason he didn't do it...
Anyways, you don't think he'll attack them at night? He is like a rag doll as soon as the sun goes down...

Hello,
I was wondering if was just a power thing or if he was trying to get some "lovin'" . But he grabs feathers out of her, so I get paranoid that he's going to hurt her. It would make sense to put them together at night, I'm just so afraid that he'll kill them in the morning...but I am...
About 3 weeks ago, I got two hens for my 4 month old rooster. I set up an area connecting to his for them to get used to eachother. The problem is, he still is trying to hurt them and attacks them when they're together. I have a great chicken coop area with 6 ft fencing to prevent escapes...
If anyone could help me with any information on Rodgers, I would really appreciate it! Background is that I was leaving a pet and farm store and they had 4 roosters that had to be gone that same day! I took all of them in hopes of finding homes, and ended up keeping one. He is officially part...
So, I think I am going to let my big boy, Rodgers, sleep in his new home tonight. I am really nervous about him being outside, but I think it's warm enough and safe. But still...the "what-ifs" are scary!
I have to agree with some other posts and if you are able, get a lawyer. The "enforcers" have clearly been to your house enough to know that your yard is clean and legal. I think its borderline harassment! How many times do they need to come to your place to prove everythings alright?!!
Wow, I went to high school in River Falls, WI! I am currently living in PA at the time, so it's good to see fellow WI folks! Keep up the fight, I'll contact some friends who still live in RF to let them know.
I completely understand your frustration! I own 1 acre in an agriculture area and my ordinance say that I have to have TWO ACRES to have any horses, pigs and chickens. I already have one, which is the best pet that we have ever had! So, we are going to keep them on the grounds that when we...
I called my State Rep this afternoon just to see if their was anything that could be done or what steps I could take to be legal. They told me the state is not allowed to change the townships ordinance and I would have to hire a lawyer to take that step. This whole situation just completely...
When we bought our house three years ago, the previous owners had chickens and a huge chicken coop. SO, considering we live in the country and own one acre, we didn't think twice of getting our own chicken. This morning I called our township to see if we were allowed to get a potbelly pig. To...
Please ignore my ignorance...but can a young rooster live with a baby potbelly pig? I am thinking of adding an addition to our growing "non-human" family, but since we arent' completely finished with the chicken coop, I'm wondering if there is a way to combine the two. Of course, Rodgers...
Very nice! I love the idea of reusing things to make your coop. My husband is currently constructing our chicken home from an old bottom portion of a cabinet. I was unsure at first, but I must admit, it's turning out pretty good and it's one of a kind!
I am sure this question has been asked many times, so I apologize for repeating it. When can my rooster stop using the heat lamp? It looks like he's completely feathered and he can "jump/fly" out of his enclosed area when the top is off. My concern is that we've had some cold and rainy days...
I some how ended up with the most perfect baby Dominique rooster about 2 weeks ago! I have two daughters, 2 and 5, and we love watching how much he changes daily. Rodgers (My fellow Green Bay Packer fans understand the name!) is now our "baby" of the family. He follows us EVERY WHERE...
