8-9 day old duckling can't hold it's head upright and is totally unresponsive. It was isolated from the other 3. I can feel it breathing. Any way to save it?
UPDATE: Can now sometimes hold up it's head, it's now peeping and reacting when I pick it up. It is constipated though and when I've...
One of my ducks wasn’t walking this morning so I separated her and examined her feet, this one has something growing out of the toe, and the other one I think is fine. I can’t afford to take her to a vet, is there anything aside from temporary isolation(to let her recover) that I can do for her?
She eats and drinks normally when I lift the food and water, It’s possible a predator reached her(they free range during the day), but in the past there’s always been a very visible injury. I tried to find it by lightly pressing on her neck looking for a reaction but there was none.
Sunday evening one of my hens(4 month old runner) was having trouble holding up her head so I brought her inside. Some feathers on her neck were missing but were mostly matted down. There was slight evidence of a scratch due to a hint of blood but I wasn’t able to find it. She’s been improving...
My 5 month old pekin hen's ear was bleeding, from what I can tell she's fine otherwise. Is this something I should be worried about or should I let her be?
You can freeze water bottles and put them out with the rabbits, they'll lay against them if they get hot but you might have to change them out semi-often.
My 4 1/2 month old drake got a nasty gash on the top of his head one evening a couple weeks ago, I kept him in a cage inside his flock's pen so he would be safe from being re-injured(and to keep him away from the mud). After a few days I let him rejoin the flock and his injury didn't get any...
One of my ducklings hatched during the night and it's left foot is twisted inward. Will this correct itself or is it a birth defect I need to be worried about?
It's my first time hatching and the first duck has zipped but only freed it's head and wings. It can't seem to free it's legs and I'm unsure whether I should intervene or let it work it out on it's own. It's only been at it for an hour at most, but it's trying so hard to get out... Nevermind, it...
Yes, and there was nothing wrong with them. I lost another duck that same day, but since then they've all been able to walk and haven't seemed to struggle at all. It's possible the two that died were earlier attacked by the drakes, but as for the two that we witnessed neither could walk...
I have some mature drakes and they ganged up on a couple of my 8-week old ducks, as far as I know it was only two and we intervened as soon as we noticed. One(a runner) had two drakes on it and the other(pekin) only had one. Neither could walk. I carried them back to their pen and the Pekin was...
I had to move my duck's nest and ended up incubating her twelve eggs... I candled them and all seem to be alive(this is my first time incubating), I was thinking they had two weeks left but forgot I had tried to guess the time they would hatch and added some extra time, but based on that they...
Would she raise them even if she didn't hatch them? Or would she need to be sitting on another nest to "adopt" them? They still have two weeks at least before hatching...
I did try showing her the eggs in a safe area for her to brood but she didn't take, she did revisit the nest site a few times and sat there for a bit. But the nest site isn't easily accessible so I think I'll try incubating them for now(one of our neighbors lent us one), thanks for the advice!
My duck(1y Indian Runner) made a nest on the edge of the ditch that runs past our house and our landlords are digging it out today. I had to move the eggs and i don't know how to get my duck to go broody on it again, and if that's not possible, how should I set up a homemade incubator until I...
