    We had our first natural hatch the beginning of June. She hatched out 6 and we have ended up with 4. My question is this... will a mother hen leave her chicks? She doesn't want to have anything to do with them now. Will even pick on them as if to put them in their pecking order.

    The stuff I got seems to have worked for the most part. Total number of chicks is 6. One is under her and the other 5 are in the house. Trying to figure out the best time to reintroduce them. Any ideas?

    While the baby is in the house, should I put something in with it, i.e stuffed animal, etc. Will she take the chick back if we leave it in the house? She also has mites and trying to figure out what the heck to do.

    My question is this, I have a broody sitting on eggs that are hatching (she's hatched out one already). There are mites EVERYWHERE!!! She's NOT in the coop. She's under a lawn mower. How do I treat this and keep the babies safe too?

    The first egg!!!

    I have read that about not eating the first egg. Can't remember as to why. We are getting about 5-6 eggs a day from our chickens, and I have scrambled up their first eggs and fed them back to the chickens. Will probably do the same for the duck eggs. Not sure if the ducks will actually EAT...

    Thank you!!!! My year old hens have quit laying for the moment, so this is a nice surprise! Like I said, this egg looks nothing like their eggs. It was small for a standard size (I thought) so hoping that they will get larger.

    One pullet and one cockeral, but what breed????

    She is so petite and friendly. I have another OEGB hen and she's the same way. Yeah!!!!! I had a silver duckwing cockeral last spring but lost him to raccoons. Interested to see if her coloring changes as she gets older. Thanks!!!

    My "clan"

    Lol!!!! Yeah, our grass is pretty green. We have been having very hot days and then rain for a few days. Makes hard to get out and mow, so there are parts that are much longer than the rest. Thanks though!!!
