Bumble foot is no fun! A few of my hens have also had bumblefoot. If you use diatomaceous earth sometimes it can dry out their feet causing the brumbles. Usually once I get the kernel out, I spray with blu kote and then leave it until the morning. Then for about two weeks I change the dressing...
Hello. For a day or so I have noticed my rooster big boy reaching his neck out for breath, at first I thought he was trying to crow because he is young and using his voice. I am now concerned that he may have some respiratory problems, or possibly gape worms as he is a free range bird. I am...
Hey! Thanks for swinging by! :celebrate
So today I just bought a 40 lb bag of food grade diatomaceous earth for my chickens. I recently just had a mite infestation, so I am using it to prevent them from coming back. I also was wondering is it okay to add into their food? I heard that it can...
How do you typically treat your chickens with the mite remover? I have heard you put it into a spray bottle and spray them with it. Is there anything I have to be careful about? How often do I spray them with it?
Hey I know it’s been awhile but, is this the right stuff? I found it on amazon. Here’s the link |

Thank you so much! <3 This is my first time with roosters on my own. I have only had hens for the past three years on my own. I have had past experience with chickens since I was a little kid. We have always had a backyard flock. It’s just a tough decision for me, but I always have in mind...
They are currently 11 weeks old. The main reason I want to have a rooster because I want keep my flock more in balance. There is one alpha hen and sometimes she can get pretty mean around the other hens. I would also like to have a rooster for fertility because I would like to hatch eggs in the...
I would recommend spraying the affected area with Vetericynin twice daily. For about 2 weeks or until the mites die. You can get Vetericyn from your local tractor supply or Amazon. I would also recommend after spraying the vetericyn that you smear the affected area with Vaseline or petroleum jelly.
Hey everyone! Hope everyone is doing well. :D
So this year we hatched some chicks, four to be exact. We have two hens and two roosters from the hatch. I love all of them dearly!:love
We have seven adult hens that are mixed ages. I have run into a little dilemma though. :barnie I am afraid if I...
Hi everyone! :frow
I do my absolute best to take care of my chickens. Does anyone have any products to recommend for treating mites? Also, if you have any dewormer’s to recommend that would be great!
Thank You,
-Sunny Flock Raiser :)
Hi!
No, I haven’t noticed her scratching her head lately. She doesn’t seem to bothered by her head
I just checked her vent area and there were no signs of mites.
We also have a flock of five hens and no roosters in our flock. She is the main hen of our flock so it could possibly be feather...
Hi everyone! I’m Sunny Flock Raiser! I’m new to BYC! here’s a little about me: :jumpy
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got chickens about ten years ago. I was too young to care for them then but it was nice being around the chickens. In 2018 my flock of...
Hello everyone! I have a problem with one of my two year old hens. To be specific she is a Rhode Island Red. During the Winter and Spring she has been progressively losing feathers on her head. She is a very healthy hen other than the loss of feathers on her head. She is actually my best layer...
