    Egg color mystery

I have a Black Copper Maran who I believe had started laying. But the eggs I’m finding are light brown. I was under the impression they laid much darker brown eggs. What could be happening? It’s possible it could be a different chicken, but I just caught the BCM nosing around the nesting box so...

    Is this feeder big enough?

Thanks! I’m hoping I don’t have to change it, but just want to see what the community thinks. They have lots of space to free range so I’m thinking there won’t be an issue.

    Is this feeder big enough?

I just increased my flock to 7 chickens. I’ve got 3 existing hens and 4 pullets that are merging. Do you think my existing feeders will give them enough access or do I need to add a third pvc feeder? It’s plenty of food but I want to make sure no one is getting bullied out of a good meal.

    Maybe vent gleet? Help needed!

Update - I checked up on her and it looks like it went back inside. I’ll give them added calcium. How else can I prevent this?

    Maybe vent gleet? Help needed!

I think she has been laying eggs, but I have two hens with the same eggs so I may need to start looking more closely. I’ll try your advice! Thank you

    Maybe vent gleet? Help needed!

Hi everyone, I am having some issues with my hen and need some help. A while back I realized there was water getting into my chicken’s food and they unfortunately got sick. I was pretty sure it was coxi and treated it with the recommended medicine and also some apple cider vinegar afterwards...

Hen won't eat oyster shells - continues to have very thin egg shells

I’ll get some pictures if I can. As of now we think she has cocci. I put medicine in the water and I’m crossing my Fingers that she drinks up! We thought it was cocci because fo the way her poop looks - very watery and white. Not bloody yet which Is good. I’m not convinced she’s egg bound. She...

Hen won't eat oyster shells - continues to have very thin egg shells

Y'all I'm getting nervous! Beginning yesterday, she has been very lethargic, closing her eyes, and not being her normal social self. She isn't joining the flock and instead stays off to herself. She isn't grazing like she normally does. She is very puffy and fat, but her tail feathers look...

Hen won't eat oyster shells - continues to have very thin egg shells

I don't have a rooster. I have 4 hens. We had a hawk attack a while back, but everything seems to be back to normal. The hawk took the other hen that was the same age, so she is the only one that is 1.5 years. The other three are approaching 1 year.

Hen won't eat oyster shells - continues to have very thin egg shells

Hi everyone, I'm concerned about one of my chickens and I'm not sure what to do to remedy this situation. She lays eggs with very thin shells. The eggs are also gigantic. It's almost as if there would be enough calcium to create a thicker shell, but because the egg is so big it's stretched...

    Should I be concerned?

It’s been about two weeks. Am I jumping the gun??

    Should I be concerned?

Hey y’all, I have two older hens who have slowed their egg production after I switched to grower feed to accommodate for the new, younger birds in the flock. I know this is normal, but I haven’t seen an increase after switching the food back. My younger hens are egg laying age now so we are...

    Help fixing feed situation

Thanks! That’s great info. I have been giving my bigger hens oyster shells and they have respond well. I’m just hoping I didn’t hurt the little ones by giving them layer too soon. I’m back to grower and supplementing for now

    Help fixing feed situation

Hey y’all. I have a mixed age flock with my youngest ones being about 14-15 weeks old. I ran out of grower food and had to give them layer feed for about a week before I was able to get more grower. Do you think this amount of time on layer feed with the extra calcium/protein could have harmed...

Could my Delaware be a roo??

They haven’t been this big until more recently, but they were red very early. Probably around 6 weeks like you said. I heard Delaware’s are fast growers so I thought I’d wait it out. But it’s clear now!

Could my Delaware be a roo??

Everyone has been so helpful! Thank you!! I love these chickens so much. I really don’t want to have to get rid of the rooster! I guess I just cross my fingers until I hear crowing! I don’t think my neighbors will be up for that unfortunately.

Could my Delaware be a roo??

I have a very friendly rooster on my hands!! HE is always coming up to say hi and eats right out of my hands. Doesn’t like to be picked up but quiets down after a while. I wonder though about the egg situation. I’m going to be sharing eggs with friends and neighbors. I know it’s perfectly fine...

Could my Delaware be a roo??

Yikes! I thought it might be so. I haven’t heard any crowing but she is much more vocal than the others. Or he now I guess? Oh my!
