It's not "OT", but I couldn't find a good place to put this...
This is in the news this morning in my very small town. I am sad they euthanized them all.

I have a very sweet and gentle Ameraucana that my small backyard flock is NOT accepting. It kills me but I think when she is healed, I'm going to have to give her away I can't let this happen again. They hurt her pretty badly.
This is what led up to where we are...
I had a small backyard flock of 5 girls... 4 are pullets, just recently started laying (3 golden comets, 1 RIR) and a year old silkie.
Everything was fine.... and then, I added a (very sweet) year old Ameraucana.
When I put her in, they all attacked her. So, I kept her in a wire dog cage in...
I am making a batch of applesauce and have a big plate of apple peelings. I am wondering if I cna give them to teh girls. I peeled them iwht a knife so some are bigger/longer/thicker than others.
I don't know if they could choke on them or not? That might be a stupid question???
I was going to put a red lightbulb (not a heat lamp, but just a colored light bulb so I could leave it on 24/7 without forcing or disrupting their egg cycle) for some warmth as I live in new england it is gets very cold here in the winter. I have seen all the posts about coops catching on fire...
Is there anything I can do when introducing a new hen? She is very, very sweet and I hate to see my other (5) girls go after her and come away with feathers in their beak! How can I help???
Any suggestions at all?? I don't want her to get hurt.
I have 3 RSL (golden comets?) and a hatchery RIR that are 20 weeks old. I've read that these types of birds can start laying earlier than other types... but nada!! I did see 2 brown feathers in a nesting box, so maybe soon??
I have one silkie (she is older than the rest) that's already...
I am not sure if I am doing this wrong or not...
I have sand in my run. I sprinkle a bit of DE and rake it around, but the poop is still out there... somewhere in the sand. Is this ok or am I supposed to be somehow removing the poop?
Most of my pullets are 14 weeks old. I have been seeing some feathers around the run and I notice "Buttercup's" tail is very sparse. I have heard of molting and just figured that's what it was... only I looked up at what ages they molt and I read 18 months! Well, she is nowhere near that, so...
For anyone familiar with silkie chicks....
I have a baby that is 2 weeks old today. S/he has wing feathers, but so does her mom, who is a lavender splash silkie, so I am not sure how to tell yet. Yes I am impatient waiting to see what grows in... but I figure other people will probably know for...
Can anyone tell me what color this Showgirl is? Probably a stupid question, but I don't know. She isn't as light as my lavendar splash silkie, but isn't as dark as my blue silkie. S/he is a week old today.
Mom is a lavendar splash silkie and I don't know what color Dad is.

We found a silkie chicken today laying in the run... she is breathing but not doing well. She opens her eyes sometimes but generally leaves them closed. She is not walking.
I saw some little tiny white bugs on her face (the rest of her is pretty furry). Is this just an aside? Or could it cause...
I have read that short wings may be a sign of a baby pullet for some breeds... how about silkie/showgirl? hope not cause my showgirl doesn't appear to have short wings
I have a brand new silkie (showgirl) that was just hatched today. It's feet look sort of curled so I attempted to make those little cardboard boots, but she was trying to get away and it just fell off... taking a piece of nail with it! There was a tiny bit of blood so I grabbed some syptic...
...and I missed it!!!!!
We were gone all day. I got home a little while ago and I have a baby silkie! I only had one egg in the bator and I was so afraid it wouldnt hatch.
Mom is a silkie... I know the place I got Mom from had showgirls. The baby's neck is bald.. is it a baby showgirl? Or are...
I have one lonely little egg in a LG bator since 6/30 (but I think today is considered day 21 then?). It is my first egg ever. I stupidly had a humidity issue (too high) until 7/10. After that, I lowered humidity until Sunday 7/18, when I did lockdown.
I am leaving Friday morning to drive 3...
I have one lonely little egg, laid 6/29, put into the bator 6/30 and locked down today. For the first 10 days or so, I had water in the bottom of the bator and the vent plugs in... with no humidity gauge. Apparently that was a dreadful mistake. I bought a gauge (it was 70%) and then took out the...
