    Check this weird egg out...

I saw a few "weird egg posts" so I thought I would add mine.. I few days ago one of my hens didn't lay an egg after reliably laying one egg a day. The next day I go out and find this HUGE egg that looks like it's been bonded in the middle. The one on the right is a normal size brown egg. Do...

What do you feed chickens of all different ages?

Okie dokie!! Thanks... OO..One more....Has anyone ever heard of feeding chickens cabbage for some nutritional benefit? One of my dad's friend is an "old country boy" and he suggested this.

Well that's a lot of different opinions which I appreciate very much.. Still ddoesn't help me though, lol. I guess I will put golf balls there JIC. Thanks for all the input...I have two hens laying and I got three eggs today! WOO HOO! =-)

So...Do they need a "nest egg" in the coop?

I have several hens of different ages and types. My two older red stars have been laying two eggs a day for about a month now. My Dad keeps telling me I need to keep a "nest egg" in the coop so they know where to lay or they will start laying elsewhere since they are allowed to free range during...

what is everybodys favorit breed of chicken?and say why you like them?

I love my polish and my silkies. They are so comical.. You can be standing right next to a polish chicken and they won't even realize you're there for a little while. And then when they do realize there are feet next to them they get spooked.. SO funny.. And it might just be me, but my silkies...

    Clipping wings

I don't think it's necessary to clip the wings either. Being that young, they aren't going to go over fences or anything. I live on two acres and my chickens don't ever go out of the yard. If it is necessary for you to clip them, I would wait and see if you see one on top of a fence or something...

How can I tell if my chicks are eating?

Right after the last post I went outside and put some paper towels down and spread some feed over it. I just went back out to check on them again (it's been about an hour or so) and there is fresh poop on the paper. I think I'm in the clear... Do you think I should still make it smaller? I...

How can I tell if my chicks are eating?

I guess I will have to put down some paper towels and see... The pen is too big to tell if they're pooping or not. I even considered bringing them in the house, but it's been in the 90's here so I don't even need a heat lamp outside where I'm keeping them inside our dog kennel. They are really...

How can I tell if my chicks are eating?

I just bought two appenzeller spitzhauben chicks from a local breeder and was told they are 3-4 days old (sunday). They seem to be doing fine, but when I pick them up their crops are always empty. I've seen them peck around a bit and drink water, but not actually eat. I can tell where they've...

When can I add my polish babies?

Update: I waited for a response to no avail. I added them in yesterday and kept my routine with the other older hens. I let my older chickens back into the coop last night about 7:30 and sat in there for a little while to watch them with the babies. My jersey hens seem to be the worst at picking...
