I just happened across your post because your dog is so cute! Just wanted to throw my experience in so you have an idea of what’s possible. I have two dogs - one LGD mix and another husky/Aussie/terrier mix. I leave my dogs alone outside with my chickens all the time with no worries whatsoever...
What was your hatch rate from the alchemist hatching eggs? And did you pick up or have them shipped? I’m assuming they’re laying noe - how did the eggs turn out? I’m so excited to hatch babies when it warms up, with new breeds and egg colors!
I don’t think it’s unethical to sell your chicks, so long as you’re not advertising them as being absolutely free of disease etc. sounds like you take way more precaution than most. The only difference is that you have this info. It would probably be best to be upfront about having had infection...
Where did you get your spinners? I bought a spinner off Amazon and it rusted within a week - was a total waste. Thank you for the ideas! Hawk (migration) season is upon us so I’m gearing up!
Wow thank you for taking the time to upload the photos and give me ideas - I love the ventilation idea and to replace the inlet roosting bars (which I hate) and replace with my own! Do you just have separate nesting boxes? Thanks again! I love the ideas and will get the knob covers!
Hi. I have a cube too and have heard about putting the child safety knob covers on those levers, but can't imagine how they'd fit and how that would work - can you share a picture of what it looks like on your cube? And/or link the type of door covers that worked with the cube. I have lots of...
Just wanted to add that Olive Eggers can have feathered legs mine does. She's an Opal Legbar x French feather legged Splash Marans cross and got the feathered legs.
How did it turn out? Great that you hatched nearly all of them and even if this one didn’t make it (hoping it did, of course), you did your best to give it a shot!
I’m sorry. Gosh hatching chicks are so delicate. It’s nerve-wrecking. It’s crazy how some people have a 100% hatch rate and others lose the whole batch. I’ve only ever hatched eggs with a Brody and that’s totally hands off so couldn’t be easier but I’m hatching in a bator this time and so...
I had a pullet killed by a hawk while in a Chunnel :-( if I’d been home I’m sure I could’ve prevented it but I was out the whole day so the hawk had time to catch her. I really couldn’t have imagined it possible since I used 2” x 4” welded fencing and the Chunnel runs along my fence and is...
Thank you and I agree that since yours were inside, I'm sure their exposure to coccidiosis was minimal, if that and my chicks are being raised outside with Mama. Thank you for the resource - I will check it out!
guys, thank you sooooooo much! this is all so helpful. I read and read but honestly, this is the type of situation where anecdotal evidence really supports the decision making process!
@topochico225 may I ask, have you raised new and unvaccinated babies around your older chickens, and not...
Thanks for your response - if too late to vaccinate for cocci, would it be beneficial to give medicated feed? I don't understand the strict deadlines. I understand that the thought is that chicks will be exposed to both as soon as it's in their environment but would it hurt to vaccinate them...
