    Help with silkie/lavender Orpington chick/sexing

Hi, just wanted to give an update: he was a rooster and we had to rehome him as he was getting aggressive towards our other roosters. Also as he feathered out I discovered he was actually a silkie mixed with my red blue laced Wyandotte hen not my Orpington.

    Help with silkie/lavender Orpington chick/sexing

I’m guessing based on color it was from my lavender Orpington. And probably my buff silkie “Becky” 😂

    Help with silkie/lavender Orpington chick/sexing

I joked with my husband of the 33 eggs we hatched out I probably kept all roosters 😂. I love how this one has feathered out though. it didn’t have any orange in it and now their peeking through everywhere. We just thought it would be fun to hatch some out from our chickens. Some were full...

    Help with silkie/lavender Orpington chick/sexing

Darn it lol I was hoping for hen 😂 but still going to try to get it better. Maybe it will fit in with the other roosters. It is with some other chicks it’s age and they have a separate pen inside the coop and outside so they aren’t getting picked on by the older hens. Would mareks only show up...

    Help with silkie/lavender Orpington chick/sexing

So we let one of our broody hens hatch out some eggs. I believe this one is a silkie/lavender Orpington mix (we only have silkie roosters). 9 weeks old Well we went on vacation and a day before we got home my mom noticed it was walking funny. Long story short I believe it had a vitamin...

Silkie sexing….I know I know they are a difficult breed…

Thank you! I’m a little bummed the 2 I wanted to keep are Roos 😭. I cant seem to find homes for them so I’ll have to cull them off. The one someone told me was possibly a silver Columbian I wanted to keep that one but it wasn’t meant to be I guess.

Silkie sexing….I know I know they are a difficult breed…

I believe these 3 are cockerels. Figured I would get on here and see what other opinions are. They look like they have streamers already and combs and wattles. They are 10 weeks old. the 4th one I believe is a hen these all hatched the same day.

Silkie chicks started out black and turning orange?

I’m guessing the chick came from my buff roo and my white hen.

Silkie chicks started out black and turning orange?

Hmmm….I’ve never heard of a silver Colombian silkie. I hatched these from my birds just for fun- I don’t know which one this chick belonged to but my hens are 2 whites and a black and the rooster choices are either buff or blue. Interested to see what it looks like once it is fully feathered.

Silkie chicks started out black and turning orange?

Ok good I was hoping for a partridge one! Do you think the white one is partridge too?

Silkie chicks started out black and turning orange?

I have 3 silkie chicks hatch out black but now they are getting orangish feathers in. Any idea what color they are? Partridge possibly? And I had one hatch out white/silver but turning white and black. Some pics of when they were first hatched. I thought partridge looked more chipmunk like so...

Using pour on ivermectin to treat depluming mites?

I’m pretty sure I have depluming mites on a few of my birds. At first I thought it was because of my rooster being to rough with his lady but now 2 of my roosters have it. Their wing and tail feathers are just broken off and have no fluff on them anymore. I don’t notice them being itchy during...

Sand for chicken coop? Tube sand/grain size

Hmmm....ok I’ll have to think about it. I just don’t know what changed in my hens, like it had such a strong ammonia smell one day I couldn’t stand to be in it. I’m kinda at a loss of what to do. It has never been like that before until a few weeks ago.

Sand for chicken coop? Tube sand/grain size

What makes you hate it? We have a concrete floor that has been sealed. It doesn’t matter how much I clean it for some reason they get it wet and smelly. And they have a poop board so I am not sure why they have been going through shavings so much. We do have some ducks that go in the coop so...

Sand for chicken coop? Tube sand/grain size

I got a bunch of quickcrete tube bags of sand. Someone wanted to get them out of their way and I have been debating about testing sand inside the coop. Now I’m second guessing if it’s ok to use in the coop. I figured I would come here and see if someone can help.
