I have a beautiful blue bantam cochin roo (6 weeks) that I'll be bringing unless someone wants him sooner. He was purchased locally from a show/breeder. He's free to anyone on BYC that wants him...I'd like for him to have a good home since I can only keep him until he crows.
Thanks for the reply . This one had a teeny tiny comb at 3 weeks and no red at all...so, I was pretty sure he was a she, now not so much.
Does anyone else have any opinions?
Oh, and I was also wondering if his darker blue is any indication of being a roo...The other blue is a much lighter...
***Added pics****Sorry, I'll have to add pictures later, I haven't been able to get a good picture of Mary (Marty?) yet. Anyway, I got him/her at 3-4 weeks old and she had no pink/red color at all to her comb at all. She's 6-7weeks old now and has lost all of the yellow/orange to her comb...
Thanks everyone!
I searched CL all.the.time until I found this one. Some people were wanting almost $100 for theirs, others $40 or $50. Until this one, I was always too slow to get one of the cheaper ones. I probably started looking in March.
I will take a pic of the nest boxes...
I'm so excited that this is almost finished. With the exception of cutting the floor boards, I did this all by myself! I picked up this little tikes playhouse for $20 on craigslist. I've been working on it little by little over the past 3 weeks. I have less than $50 in it, including the...
What time is a good time for shoppers to show up? We won't be able to stay all day because of other commitments, but I want to make sure we get there in time for a good selection
That is really neat! (taking notes for new run...)
We put our existing small tractor over where the previous owners had a playhouse/sandbox...the girls have dug up all the sand that had been buried in the dirt. They love it.

My FIL made these and called them "Hobo Eggs"! Absolutely awesome for breakfast!
We call these "Hole in One"...funny that there are so many names for the same thing.
We eat eggs probably every way they can be cooked. Scrambled is the favorite of the kids (with ketchup), I like them...
Thank you. I suppose I could always cover the sides in plastic if it doesn't seem to be working. The coop will be sitting next to the shed, which will give some wind block also.
I picked up a little tikes playhouse coop from craiglist (cheap). I have everything figured out I think, except for these gaps at the corners where the walls meet and join. There is a 2-3" gap where the pieces hook together. I can cover them with hardware cloth, but I wonder if that will be...
Thanks for the reply...that is actually what I thought made the most sense. Hmm....gonna have to figure out if something is sneaking in. Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be bothering them, but I'd prefer it not come at all.
For the past week or so, my girls have been going through more than twice as much food during the day. In the morning, I let them out to free range and the coop stays open, so I thought maybe they were sharing with another critter (chipmunk maybe?). I tested that out the other day by not...
Please put me down for 2 or 3. I'll be coming and bringing a kid or 2 to hopefully pick up 2 or 3 new bantam girls (breed not important, just looking for PQ) to add to our backyard
Some background...our flock is 3 hens. 2 mixed LF and 1 bantam cochin. The bantam, Angus (yes, Angus is her name lol), has been broody twice already this spring. She's right at a year old and started laying around 9 months old. The first time, I finally broke her broodiness after 3 nights in...
Hi Hoosiers . I think my official introduction is several pages back, but I'll update...I'm Kristin, just west of Indy. We have 3 hens, 2 mixed LF and 1 black bantam cochin. The bantam is broody...again, for the 2nd time this spring. I think she needs some eggs to sit on. Does anyone around...
