Thank all of you for your advice and replies. Unfortunately, this morning we had to let her go as it was worsening and looked like it was starting to open. Thanks for helping a chick novice like me
I only have one picture of her after she arrived but I don’t see the redness in that one. It looks like her skin is getting stretched too quickly. Not loss of down but it’s spread out because of the (assumed) hernia.
Ok thank y’all. That’s the perfect way to describe it, a “full” abdomen. Did not know mushy chick was a thing until now. Thank y’all again for this help, I appreciate it so much
That’s what concerns me. The vent itself doesn’t look prolapsed but I’m starting to think her organs may be prolapsed. It doesn’t feel as tight as the others’ abdomens
Yes I will get a better one but I think her skin is fine. It looks like it was a weird molting pattern but there are feathers coming in. It’s not bald like I thought originally. Thank you for your reply! It’s been a while since I had chicks and I’ve forgotten a lot I’m afraid
So this is (what I think at least) my Buff Brahma chick. She is smaller than all the others but they’re all different breeds. Today I saw some reddish skin and checked it out thinking she was either molting or getting pecked. It almost seems like she is prolapsed or something. I can’t tell if it...
It’s technically a treehouse that we’re converting but we have a wide deck around it and it’s pretty big on the inside (size of a storage building). We will have to walk up the deck stairs but I do that about a 100x a day with the toddler anyway lol
It didn’t seem very helpful to me either. Have you had success “reversing” (if you will) this behavior? If so, how? I would love to work with her so we don’t have a repeat
that’s really cool and I think that is going to be the most efficient way. I’ll show this to my husband so we can replicate. Thank you so much for taking the time to help!
So we are remodeling our existing coop and run to be more predator proof. We do have an existing building (treehouse) that would be a great place to make a sturdy coop. To get up and down from the coop to enclosed area below, I will need to build a ramp. Is there a height that is too tall for...
Hey y’all!
I was sent over this way after looking for some chicken advice on Reddit.
I’ve had chickens the last five years or so but am having to restart my small flock after a really heartbreaking incident.
I’m here to learn more about keeping my new girls safe and happy. I also enjoy...
