Our chickens are doing great! We started out with 10 sapphire gems, 2 wyandottes, 2 silkies, and 4 Easter eggers. One of the sapphires died as a baby and the 2 silkies got killed by predators. The rest are happy and wandering. We started them out in our fenced in backyard, but after they ate...
We have 4 Easter Eggers and 2 Silkies that share a coop. We think one of them has respiratory problems. We are treating all of the birds with Vet RX as well as a mixture of garlic, thyme, oregano, and honey in water. We are also giving them watermelon :) But we have the suspected sick Egger...
We bought a used chicken tractor from somebody. I've wiped it down with bleach twice and power washed it but it still smells. Is it safe for the chickens or is it beyond hope?
Sorry, I have no advice but I'm on here from Georgia as well and our chickens have mites. I was about to buy Elector PSP but I'll wait and see what people say.
Soooo.... I think after building the coop and run, the tarp was more of an afterthought. I screwed it to the roof and pulled it as tight as I could, then screwed it to the run all around. But, the rain came, water pooled up in the tarp, the screws pulled away from the roof, and now everything is...
We've only had them in the run for a couple weeks. It is 6 ft tall and 80% covered with a tarp, so it doesn't get wet, but it does seem like a good ground covering would be good.
I scare myself. This is like having kids all over again! I am amazed my wife and I have kept these things alive and that they're actually starting to lay eggs!
Our run is mostly dirt. Do you clean the poop in there or just let it "fertilize"? Also, what should I add to the run? We tried a xylophone and swing, but they don't care for either. We are going to add herbs (and of course we have a feeder and waterer), but is there anything else?
Did you solve the problem? We are having the same trouble. 11 chickens and only 1 is laying in the nesting boxes. The others (the few that we think have started laying) are laying in the run and then the eggs are getting crushed and eaten.
We live in southern GA and give our chickens water with a gamma lid covered 5-gallon bucket with nipples. We have the bucket in our tarp covered run which is in the shaded part of our yard. However, with the humidity the temperature feels like upper 90's to low 100's many days (out of the shaded...
We used black jack for the floor of our coop and today is the first time cleaning it. What do you recommend for cleaning it? I don't want to use anything to abrasive and risk putting a hole in it.
