After a year of have chickens the local wildlife found my coop last night and tore through ten+ chickens that were roosting outside in the run. I only am left wondering what type of animal did it though because these are big breed chickens and there are 8 out of 10 bodies missing. The two...

Programmed IC chip switch for "home made" incubators

yep as soon as you introduce a control for water that type of project becomes way more expensive but controlling temps and multiply heat sources is not so much an issue. was thinking of something similar to a power strip with 4 or 5 connectors standard US A/C one or two able to be on a 18 day...

quick question for you hatching eggsperts

the day you get the eggs you should incubate them the fresher the better IMO. Try and get that days eggs! if there are not enough then get eggs from the last 3 days. I would not incubate eggs over 7 days old. Never refrigerate the eggs you want to incubate they do fine sitting in a dark...

Programmed IC chip switch for "home made" incubators

I am going to start with the basic's on the first go round. first set of goals are 1) 99.5 degree steady temp (solid state) and 2 year or more reliable. 2) humidity display via led bar for % this will be the 20$ model and it should be no bigger than about 2 pencils in width and half the length...

Programmed IC chip switch for "home made" incubators

that's the thing I have already built a few prototypes but i need to know what "functions" are going to be on the Gotta have it list. I have already been looking at usb connections for PC monitoring and adjustment for people into statistics. thinking of a 6 or 8 channel relay setup with a...

Programmed IC chip switch for "home made" incubators

I am a bit of a tinkerer would there be any interest in a temp and humidity easy use plug in module for homemade incubators. Thinking of trying to design one for under 20 bucks and have it be reliable. I hate buying hardware as much as the next person but I am thinking this would help quite a...

Help hatching Silkies in a Brisnea Octagon

I have hatched more eggs this year than I have ever thought of and I keep the method and madness the same every time. 95-100 degrees and 35-45% humidity once eggs are in the incubator the thing is never opened and at day 18 the egg turner is unplugged. Day 21-22 they all pop out like popcorn...

Help hatching Silkies in a Brisnea Octagon

reduce your humidity to 35-45% until day 18 they sound like they might be drowning in fluids when they try and hatch. some of the water naturally evaporates during the incubation; the extra humdity is only for the hatch you don't want them to have their air pocket fill with water.

Questions about 1502 Sportsman Wafer Incubator

you can convert it and it's not that hard really your replacing the switch but I would still keep the wafer in series with the digital as a backup. I would also replace the wafer after you get it home and setup in it's place. Shouldn't be all that hard and if you Google hacking a sportsman...

    Should I help?????

Every time I have helps chicks out of their shells I wish I hadn't because they are a weak chick. I feel bad for not helping but they probably will not make it in the world if they can't make it out of the shell. A bit harsh but nature really does select in the end.

what do hatching eggs normally cost?

kinda what I was getting at in the last post. You can still get SQ chicks hatched for less if you find a local.

what do hatching eggs normally cost?

I would not pay 50 quid for 24 eggs that is bonkers! Find a local farm and ask them for eggs that have been exposed to a Roo. 4 quid a dozen unless your looking for a special breed for show purposes. Chicken is chicken when it's has no feathers and a egg looks the same once in the pan...
