I totally agree with the euphoria. I have raised 2 batches of chicks from 2 days old and recently hatched my own. It never gets old. I had two chicks that would jump up on me and cuddle under my chin. Unfortunately they stopped doing it at about 6 months old. I miss it.
Help. Only 2 of my 6 eggs’ air sacs have increased from day 7 to day 14. Chicks are moving in all of them. These are shipped eggs and the 4 sacs that did not grow were pretty large or saddled to begin with. I have been keeping the humidity between 40 and 55. Should I decrease it these last 4...
My roosters just got over fowl pox and it looked just like that. I isolated the two and vaccinated the rest. No one else got it. Separate him now and if the spots grow you will know it’s fowl pox. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pics of them with the pox🙁
It’s a hobby. We enjoy having different bantam breeds. Presently we have mostly Cochin, self blue, partridge, and mille fleur and my husband has his golden duck wing OEG. They all have unique personalities. We have chairs set around the coop to watch “chicken TV”. I find them fascinating.
I have 14 ten week old bantams and two 4 week old bantams. I have been putting the young ones in a cage and placing it in the coop yard with the older chicks. When is it safe to let them out of the cage to join the flock?
My 8 week old bantam rooster has this hard raised dry tan/yellow spot on his comb. No one else in the flock has it. Doesn’t seem to bother him. Should I be worried?
Success! I turned the heat light on inside the coop and moved the food and water inside the coop just before sunset. Came back an hour later and everyone was snuggled in asleep inside the coop. It’s been working every night since. Once they are older I will switch to a normal light and not move...
This must be a common problem. My 5 week old chicks won’t go in their coop on their own either. They have started chirping frantically at dusk and huddling near the run door. I put them in the coop and they go right to sleep. We were unable to keep them in the coop for the recommended 2 weeks...
That is a great question. I am rehoming 3 of them. We would really like to keep one rooster of each type. That would mean 3 roosters to 7 hens. Not sure if that is going to work.
Hi there. I decided to join this great group after getting answers to so many of my new chicken mom questions. We have 13 five week old bantam chicks. Three are partridge Cochins, 5 are self-blue Cochin, and the last 5 are old English golden duck wing game bantams. Why such an odd mixture?? My...
