    Feathers stuck to back

I thought maybe my chicks backs weren't drying, but I think it is egg residue. Should we rinse them and put them back in the incubator to dry before moving them to the brooder?

    Drying newly hatched

I have a chick that has been hatched for 9 hours now, but the feathers on the back still looks wet and thim and you can see it's skin. Might it have egg residue? What should we do? I don't want to move it to the brooder too soon. It's buddy just hatched a couple hours ago and is still quite...

    Pipping

I have eggs in my incubator. Today is day 21. We didn't notice when the eggs started to crack. One chick was vigorous and has already hatched. I have three other eggs with cracks, but no further progress. It looks like even part of the shell fell off, but the membrane is intact. I am...

Nuture Right 360 auto egg turner

Is there a way to turn off the auto egg turner? My electricity was turner off briefly, so the incubator restarted counting and is off by one day. I need to have it stop rotating today, but it thinks tomorrow.

    Incubation capacity

This will be our first time trying our incubator. Is there a minimum amount of eggs that must be put in the incubator? Must it be full to work properly?

    Low night temps

Our night temps are usually in the 20's and around 30, but at the end of the week, we will hit 0 degrees. I have 4 Buffs, 4 Barreds, 1 Red, 1 Bantam Ameraucana, and 1 Bantam Ameraucana Rooster. They have been fine with no adjustments this far, but I am concerned about the cold snap. Should we...

    Neck feathers

I have 1 Ameraucana rooster, 4 Buffs, 4 Bards, 1 Red and 1 Ameraucana. My largest Buff has been losing neck feathers and some tail feathers. Now a second is losing her neck feathers too. The spots aren't bald, but noticably thin and there are feathers all over the coop and yard. It doesn't...

    Two roosters...

This is our first flock, 19 weeks old: 5 Reds, 5 Buffs, 4 Barreds, 1 Americauna and 2 Americauna roosters Which rooster to keep: Rooster 1 is a bit bigger, quieter and doesn't seem overly interested in the girls. However, when the other rooster tries or successfully mates with a girl, he runs...

    Normal feather loss?

Our chicks are 7.5 weeks now. I noticed a few "adult" feathers here and there. Today I noticed in a couple corners of the coop, a good amount of down feathers. Is this normal? Do they lose their down once they are fully feathered? What is normal loss and what should be investigated?

    Time to move outside?

Our chicks are 4.5 weeks old. We have 17 in a bit less than 4x4 pet pen. The room is currently at 62. I don't know how much the chicks are huddling at night. Some perch. They talk quite frequently throughout the night. There's one brooder plate in there that only one or two use...

    Problem or just dirty feathers?

I found this one girl like this at dinner feeding time. It wasn't there 4 or less hours earlier, but now it's been there a couple hours. I don't think it's wet as it would've dried by now. It feels a bit dirty/crusty, nothing obvious...maybe somebody pooped on her? Or is this a sign she's...

    How much to feed?

How do I know how much food to give my 4 week old layers? We have a small feeder with a pint sized mason jar on top. When full, it is the equivalent of 2.5 pint sized mason jars. They eat most of it except for a layer at the bottom of the feeder. I can fill it again and they will go right...

    Room Temperature for Baby Chicks

We have new chicks arriving any day and we are first time chicken owners. We purchased a brooder plate, but what I can't seem to find much info on is what the room temperature should be. I have seen 70 degrees, but not more than 75. We have a quiet room for them, but it is the coolest room of...
