Muscovy 4 week olds (I think)!

Hi there, these are our 4 week olds. I’m pretty sure they are Muscovies. They are huge already compared to other pictures I’ve seen. We feed them on a varied diet. Transitioning them at the moment from starter feed to mixed with duck pellets, plus greens and seeds are available at various...

Can two week olds go outside?

Thanks so much. This might sound like a silly question, but will they be ok unattended? They will have a safe space and will check the weather etc first. I’m really struggling at the moment as I timed it wrong to hatch them. Feel a bit irresponsible and beating myself up over it, but trying my...

Can two week olds go outside?

Hi there, my ducklings are desperate to get outside of their pen. They are almost two weeks old and have been in the house having regular baths and run around the lounge every morning. But now they are much bigger, it is much messier. The weather here in the uk is mild at the moment, around 70...

Advice needed - bitten off more than I can chew

Hi @Sosalty thats great news about the kitties. My hopes are they can be tolerant of one another. One of my cats won’t even look at them, or be in the same room, in fact I’ve had to move her litter tray out of the room. She is so shy and weirded out by anything new. The other one I wouldn’t...

Advice needed - bitten off more than I can chew

Hi @New duck mommy 2021 wow that does sounds crazy, but what an experience. I can’t give them back yet as not sure the farmer will be wiling to take care of them like I am, they will be wilded once they go back, free ranging in the barns etc. I’ll have to sort the bulb out today and find a way...

Advice needed - bitten off more than I can chew

Or nearest thank you @Jenbirdee that’s a good point. I think I’ll try and keep them where they are in the Guinea cage and raise the bulb somehow. It sits just inside the cage at the moment, will probably have to snip some of the bars off so they don’t overheat as they have like a white coating...

Advice needed - bitten off more than I can chew

Thanks so much @ruthhope I will be out and about looking for a large plastic tub, I’ll line it with a non slip matting (can get from ikea on a roll). Can I ask your advice re the heat lamp. Today I noticed they are wanting to be away from it, so assuming it’s too warm. What’s the possibility of...

Advice needed - bitten off more than I can chew

@Jenbirdee thank you. That’s a good idea and yes I will do this from tomorrow. Can I also ask about the heat lamp. The way it is set up, I cannot alter it so it is further away from the ducks until hubby returns and I don’t have anyone I could ask. Today I noticed they are moving away from it...

Advice needed - bitten off more than I can chew

Hi there, new duck mum to x 7, 7 day olds. I feel like I need some support as really struggling. They hatched in the incubator last week and are in large Guinea pig cage with heat lamp in our back lounge. They are healthy as can be, having Bath time every day, but boy they take up a lot of my...

Ducklings (5 days old) constantly emptying water - advice needed

Hi there, they are only 5 days old!!!!! They are getting so big already. Ok, I have made the yogurt pot water holder as suggested above to try them out, but doesn’t really solve the overnight water solution as not sure it would be enough. I bought a paint tray and they’ve loved having a little...

Ducklings (5 days old) constantly emptying water - advice needed

Hi there, I have 7 ducklings just 5 days old. They are in a large Guinea pig enclosure with heat lamp etc. pic attached for reference. They are constantly at the water. They don’t stop till it’s empty. I know they need access to water at all times but this is exhausting. I made a home made tray...

Advice Needed for hatching Duck Eggs

Good morning, so we now have 6 out of 8 hatched, including the one that had pipped the wrong end. We were on the verge of assisting, but he was successful before we went to bed at 1am thankfully. We’ve moved 5 of them to the brooder as there really was no room in the incubator. The latest is in...

Advice Needed for hatching Duck Eggs

I think I have a double thread, sorry about that. I wasn’t sure what I was doing and there are a couple of comments on the other one. Two have hatched and a third on the way, the one in question hasn’t progressed, but it’s coming up to 24 hours being like that. I’m inclined to leave it, but...

Advice Needed for hatching Duck Eggs

That’s a relief and I really hope this is the case. I’m worried he is shrink wrapped. The hole isn’t big enough to tell, but there is sporadic movement. It’s the egg in the middle pic by the way.
