    20 hens only 7 eggs at the most a day GOOD OR BAD????

    After reading these posts I am so depressed. I have a coop full of 2 yr old hens (at least 20) and I am getting 1 egg every 2 days. Gonna have to have a serious talk with my girls.

    Is the Deep Woods Off ok for the egglayers-meaning is there a withdrawal.I wouldn't think so seeing as how we humans can coat ourselves in it but just thought I'd ask.I'm using DE right now and as my mother would say "It's like a fart in a whirlwind"

    What do you feed your free-range layers?

    I feed mine layer pellets, IMO they need that for better nutrition. Scratch is only for a treat around here and only in the colder months. If your going through a lot of feed try switching to pellets -less waste.

    I know that everyone says to not wait but I like to.The only reason for me being that getting them on the day they come in there seems to be a higher rate of mortality than getting one that been there at least a week. Look for nice active chicks,those are the ones you want.

    To Quarantine, or Not to Quarantine?

    Definitely quarantine them. I bought some chickens from a friend didn't do it and now my whole flock has that stupid mycoplasmosis(chicken cold)? Wish I had known that he got them from an auction.

    Composting poop.

    Thats where I put mine ,depending on where you are it takes a good 6 months for it to break down into useable compost.Don't forget to turn it every now and then and water it down when you first put it out.
