Well she made it through the night...and she is perfect She drank about a half a dish of water and has eaten everything we have given her. I have no idea what was wrong with her. We are keeping an eye on her today so I guess we wait and see.
I can't hear anything when she breathes, no wheezing or crackling. Her eyes and nose don't have any discharge but there is a lot of saliva in her mouth making bubbles along the sides. I think because she is just mouth breathing she isn't swallowing her saliva. How do I tell is she is in pain...
Mom brought one of the 1 year old Americana girls in tonight. She kicked her out of the next box but noticed she wasn't walking right, she doesn't have good balance, almost like she were drunk. Also, her crop is empty. Currently she is in the house sitting back on her hind end with her head...
I really like this thread! I have a friend who breeds racers but I never thought about breeding them for food. I guess it makes sense though, you could really breed anything for food. I am going to keep watching this one, I don't have anywhere for pigeons now but later on, who knows!
We have red and golden sex-link hens. All of the girls are very friendly, lay large eggs, and started laying pretty early. I think all of the sex-link breeds are very nice reliable birds.
I emailed the ranch supply store that we purchased our Golden Sex-Link from. Hopefully I can get you the name of the hatchery they get then from and you can go right to them. The source makes all the difference. We have both Red and Golden hens and they look completely different, a good...
Always look a gift horse in the, well, everything. At least she is with someone who will work with her now. A great resource for ground training is Richard Maxwell. He has several books that are excellent! About the barefoot issues, I ride my boy barefoot everywhere and we live in the Rocky...
All of our girls sound like that! Bok bok bok bok bok BUGAWK! Bok bok bok bok bok BUGAWK! Bok bok bok bok bok BUGAWK! They will carry on like that until they are done laying, sometimes 30 min or more!
Going by how the beak looks in the pictures I believe it is some kind of Wren. A starling would be much much bigger and almost black and a sparrow would have a wider beak at the end and wouldn't have baby fluff, sparrows go straight to feathers and never have fluff. We just got 5 baby Wrens in...
Uh, I hate to burst any bubbles but the actual Lipizzaners from the Vienna Riding school are not on tour in the US right now. They were here a few years ago but not right now. I think you are probably going to see the "World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions" from Florida...
This is a great recipe for on the go omelets! You can eat them right away or place them in a plastic baggy and put them in the fridge. During a hectic morning you can microwave them and add a slice of toast for a good fast breakfast. They also freeze well!

For freezing eggs this is an excerpt from the book "Chickens in your backyard; A beginners guide"
Scramble the eggs and add one teaspoon of honey or half a teaspoon of salt for each cup of eggs, to keep the yolk from getting pasty then pour the eggs in ice cube trays....store in plastic bags and...
A guy I know has a duck, not sure what breed it is, but I am pretty sure it is an adult. Anyways, the duck is the only animal he has on 8 acres and he wants to get a friend for it so he is thinking about adopting a 3 week old chick we have the bird rehab center I work at. Is this a good idea...
