I just noticed today my 7 month old BLRW Roo has a underbite!!! I've been hatching a couple chicks from him and got rid of my other BLRW Roo's already. Is there a chance his offspring can have an underbite beak as well?
Thanks everyone for your info! Arielle I completely believe your statement about the source of the birds. I guess if I cant find a well respected Orpington breeder around my area I'll have to go with something else. Anybody have any other suggestions on a bird that I could butcher if needing...
I'm looking to switch out either my Delawares or Wyandottes for some Orpingtons. I'm looking for a good constant layer with a semi-meaty body and a very calm attitude. I've pretty much narrowed it down to Orps. Any comments on the subject from you Orpington owners out there?
How do they take...
Here's my girls, From Paul Smiths line, so says the breeder I bought them from. They're about 7 months and laying strong!
"Noche"
"Lluvia"
"Cielo"
I love these birds!!! They are the most interesting breed I have had the privilege of tending to.
Selling eggs soon! PM ME
This is "Guapo"...
I already have at least one breeding pair of each, I need more though. I'm into the 2nd generation of my Cayuga's and I need fresh bloodlines.
I really need another BLRW hen and more Delaware hens. PM if you have some for trade or sell and you live around Central TX(Austin/San Marcos/ Blanco...
Hey Debbie, I live in the Austin/San Marcos area and I use Delawares and Easter Eggers for my eggs, and they are big enough that if you have to eat them you can. Even through the 100+ degree days they lay anywhere from 4-6 eggs a week. And when it cools off just a bit they'll be back to laying...
Thanks TK. Yeah its around or over 100 degrees everyday down here this time of year, that's the reason for the droopy wings. I'll get some bigger pictures of him up here tomorrow.
Is the gold leakage a super recessive gene? Because the man I got these Ameraucanas from has been breeding them...
I've got 3 Blue Ameraucana Roosters and I'm culling 2 of them tonight or tomorrow evening, so I've got to decide which one to keep! 2 of them (Rooster A & B) have some slight gold leakage on their backs and the 3rd(Rooster C) is from another bloodline and has no strange colors, buuut 1 of the...

and you can tell this by????? the color of her comb.... then the name fits her. B*tchin betty (BB)..lol mouthy as all get out..
Another couple of major points you can tell she's a hen by.. Roosters will not sit on the next at all! And it has no V shaped hackle or saddle feathers. And...
Thanks everybody! I was scared she was getting sick. Yeah she's also loosing some of her little feathers, but yeah in 2 days the entire tail was gone just like your Roo Attack chicken! Thanks for the picture post.
And she does have roommates but her and the other Del Hen rule the roost, and...
Thanks geweldig, Yea I looked at the website and read about the smooth U'ness in the back and such. If the medium sized Rooster(they're the same age) has better color and shape would he be a better shot for breeding rather than the larger sized Rooster with rust hackles and saddles? The larger...
She is a Delaware hen about a year old, and recently all of her tail feathers have fallen out!?! Is this part of molting or does she have something wrong with her? Ill get pictures tomorrow, and her black coloring is kind of fading. AHHH anybody??

Some good points for sure but some ridiculous statements such as
"These principles were discovered over 100 years ago and are still followed by commercial chicken producers worldwide. Unfortunately for the chickens, they have been forgotten by backyarders and hobbyists."
I've got 3 BLRW Roosters to choose from for my one Splash lady, All three men have great lacing in my opinion as well which makes this all the more difficult.
I'm wondering what the small details are on the judging of these birds? I've heard something about the golden hackle and saddle...
I need some BLRW breeders advice! How well do my 4 birds look? Color and feather wise that is. These are my first BLRW's and I love 'em! 3 Roo's & a Splash hen. They're all 5 1/2 months old.
Biggest Roo
Mid Roo
Little Roo
Gotta take pics of my splash lady tomorrow. If I wanted to show...

Is it a hot day or does Victor always keep his wing down. Can't really see the female well, but she looks good in the picture.
Walt

From my understanding, with Blue Laced Red Wyandottes you can get either a lighter blue laced red, a dark blue laced red, or a splash blue laced red wyandotte. In the picture the chick in the top looks like my darker blue laced red wyandottes did and the bottom two kind of look like my...

I would suggest Delaware. My main man Victor (Del Roo) watches almost my entire flock and doesnt really play favorites with the ladies. And I think older Delaware Roosters look epic! They get pretty meaty as well

If your looking for a breed based on the friendly factor I'd highly recommend Orpingtons! Not that Ameraucanas & EE's arent friendly, I have both and mine are all extremely friendly but I have had cases of a couple pure bred Ameraucanas being spastic and crazy. Every Orpington I've ever...
