Okay this is our first set of chicks and I really don't know the answer to this question.
Before I ask Please don't think I'm crazy- lol
How many toes "things" of a chicken foot are there.
My chicks have 5 - are they all toes- what are they?
3 in the front and 2 in the back.
I really am...
My chicks hatched (with help) 6 hours ago. One detached from the shell soon after birth, however 2 are still attached.
One is attached by what looks like a small blood vessel. He is very active and want to get up but cant because of the shell.
The other is very attached by what looks like a...
no we dont have a water wiggler, actually I've never heard of that.
We have the temperture gauge that came with the incubator and we also have a dgital temp and humidty gauge.
This was a homeschool prodject gone over board.
We have learned a lot, but I'm thinking we will not do this again.
yes the 99.5 temp was during incubation,
I have a Little Giant Still Air Incubator.
The 3 chicks that I hatched today are still hanging on.
Now I just have 12 more that should be hatching this weekend.
What should the temp and humidty be for those 12 to hatch on there own?
This is our first and last time to incubate, it was a rough start at first, and one day the temp spiked for an hour of 120,
we continued to candled all were still alive, I just became very worried then today came around and still nothing.
I have read so many different sites and post about temp and humidty. It really does become confusing.
The temp at 99.5 humdity was at 65, I later when I learned how I raised it to 80, but they still didnt do anything.
2 out of 3 are chirping now, I just want to know what to except, I guess
we were on day 24.
They were showing no sign of hatching, not even a sound.
When I read the how to forum, I got them opened up, and they had there beaks through the blood vessel membrane however the membrane was dry and stuck to them,
I really feel they would have died, if I had not done...
I was on day 24 and my eggs were showing no progress, but when candled they were moving.
I actually followed the steps that are listed at the top of this incubating and hatching forum. It was very helpful.
I actually peeled the shell and got the process going before they died, right now were...
Today I had to help 3 eggs to hatch.
Right now they are all out of the shells.
However they are still attached to the shell- is that normal?
One of them is really moving around and getting upset not being able to get away from the shell.
Another one is just laying there pretty much...
I do have another question-
I have the humidity at 85 and the temp at 98-
I have the little giant still air incubator-
Should I take the 2 red air hole plugs out of the top?
Or do I leave them in, because I still have 12 more eggs that need to incubate a little more.
I did read all the pages up top about helping them hatch. It did give my the incouragement to help them along.
I followed the steps and the results are-
We have 3 live chicks who had gotten through the blood vessel membranes and the beaks were out, they are all moving and chirpping (one more...
This is our first time with incubating and I still have lots of questions.
Day 21 for our eggs was this past Tuesday March 25, we still have no chicks. Is this okay?
Should I try to get one started? And if so is there info or a website that tells you how?
Is it okay for them to go this...
okay I'm really getting concerned now. The eggs are not doing anything. Not a sign of hatching.
Can they come this far and not hatch? Could I help them hatch?
How long is to long in the egg to live?
okay I need help to know if these chicks are going to hatch or not.
I set 3 of them on Friday March 7- when should they be exspected to hatch.
Then I set 11 more on Sunday March 9- when should they hatch.
I candled them last night (monday march 24) they were all moving. But theres been no...
I really appreciate everyones input. I will be standing by the incubator impatiently the next couple of days. My husband said, you can't get attached to an egg- but I say oh yes you can! I will keep posting the results. Thanks to everyone
Hi I am new at incubating- this is our first time. We or really I have put so much work, time and love into these little eggs. We recently candled them and for sure have 3 out of 4 silkies doing very well. However, I have had a few minor issues with the temperture the past 2 days- so this...
