My BF, my 2 YO daughter, two papillons (Bernini and Wendel) and I have started our first small backyard flock this year. We have a large backyard with a garden and a chicken coop that we built with left over materials from my BF's Grandfathers old projects from way back in the day.
Our reasons...
I hate plastic in general. My household has greatly cut down on our consumption a lot, and as a result we have far less trash. My sister and mother visited and our house was flooded with plastic bags (even though we have tons of reusable ones) and tons of plastic bottles (even though we have a...

Well, water conservation is always good http://www.treehugger.com/corporate-responsibility/a-new-era-of-water-conservation.html ...but I can't figure out how you break a toilet with a brick. It isn't brain surgery to gently place one in.
For weeks I could not understand why every once in a while I would get stomach cramps and start to vomit . The quiche for dinner night was the worst night ever! I figured it out finally and I am not happy to say it has been the eggs all along making me sick.
Just this year I started my flock of...
Can anyone give me tips on how I should go about selling the extra eggs that I have from my 6 chickens and 3 ducks? I was thinking of posting on CL or maybe posting signs around the neighborhood letting people know there are eggs for sale. I can only sell maybe a dozen chicken and a dozen duck...
It is normal for some chickens. I know a few coops in my town where you almost never hear the hens making noises, but in other places around town you can hear chickens blocks from their coop...such as mine. We have a large park behind our house and I can hear my chickens at the very other side...

It just seems a bit odd that when she gets in to lay an egg she just doesn't get out again. She has only done it the past two days.
Anyone have any ideas why she is doing...

We put straw down over the entire garden. We have a few bind weeds come out and a few foxtails, but it is very manageable unlike most years.
Thhis pic is from a month ago.
Offer to walk the dog, take the dog on rides to a lake where she can run around and be a dog. If these people only care about breeding her why would they cafe if a friendly neighbor comes over and asks to give the dog some fun time. Tell them it is only fair since it is your birds the dog has...
If you have your nest boxes elevated about a foot the ducks wont even notice where the eggs are. As long at the eggs are out of the way so the ducks can't step all over them they wont bother the eggs. As it is when a duck lays an egg they usually make a nest out of the way in the corner and just...
