okay update....I have been treating them with antibiotics for the past 24 hours....I decided to treat both as i think maybe they are different symptoms of the same problem.....My orprington rooster is walking a little better today.....he still limps but its only after using it for awhile....He...
Two weeks ago I posted that my roosters had a fight. One had been bloodied badly and a few days later the other started limping. They had fought through a fence and i thought he had injured his leg on the fencing. I brought the limping rooster into the basement in my Chicken hospital and washed...
I just had a problem with my incubator and fried all my eggs....it was to be the last batch of the season.....All my breeds are usually separated by breed so there is no interbreeding, and because that was to be my last hatch of the season i let them all free range together. My question is how...
I candled the eggs and there is nothing....all the eggs are dead.....bad thing is i can't reset the hatch all my hens have interbred........I only hatch pure breed chicks
Oh well no free ranging for a while i guess must keep everyone penned until i can get some more eggs
on my first hatches i had the digital and a cheaper regular outdoor mercury one in both incubators.....seeing that my hatches where very good and temps good...i took out the mercury thermometers to keep an eye on the temp for my broody pens.....big freaking mistake.....one digital is now to high...
I just realized that my thermometer went on the fritz and has been keeping the eggs at 102-103 degrees for the past 7 days....do I throw out the eggs and start over or is there a chance that they survived in this high heat....I figured out that my last two hatches have not been as successful...
My rooster with the limp had a gash between his foot and spur....I couldn't see it cause there was some dirt on it.....I washed his feet in water with epsom salts and covered it in polysporin.....he is now in a crate in my basement resting comfortably.....I am hoping he will be back to normal in...
A few days ago two of my biggest roosters fought through the fence that separates them. My Brahma rooster's beak is damaged and his crest and wattles are full of scabs which i am treating with polysporin to avoid infection. My other rooster the orprington who seems to have less damage to his...
its been my experience with many breeds that the males will feather slower than the females. I have been 90% accurate sexing my chicks in this way. I have ameraucannas, buff orprington and brahmas and i had all my roosters and females sexed by 3 weeks old. I wasn't as successful with the barred...
I have 3 baby silkies about three weeks old. My white one is feathering up nicely but my two black ones have bald spots all over like they lost the fluff to fast and the feathers haven't had a chance to start growing. I've never seen chicks do this before and its my first time raising silkies...
its okay....I have contacted a breeder 6 hours from me and he may send me some fertilized eggs...he usually only sells live chicks...I had to drive down there to pick up my day olds last time.....I guess he is taking pity on me cause i told him my story....he is a reputable breeder....and said...
by the way she was a private seller...and assured me they where pure....my daughter paid 5$ a chick for the little fluffs.....she has been waiting a year to find a breeder in our area....now she is very upset and I am furious that she will not exchange or refund
I guess I will not purchase 2...
Vaulted skulls????? What should i be looking for when looking for a pure breed?
Yes I do have an incubator.....I am currently incubating buff orpringtons, and light/dark brahmas.....new incubator on the way...have to many orders to keep up...lol
Oh my little girl will be disappointed...she spent her allowance to buy 4 pure bred silkies to raise as show chickens/pets/breeding stock....now she is doubting the pedigree of all her chicks.....I contacted the lady and she assured me that they are pure...but she is also selling silkie x and...
