This would be Silver Blue Oe Cockerel, what you have appears to be a cockerel possibly blue or splash may be one of several breeds but not OE without a single comb.
Nanakat,
your new calf looks a good deal the size of my unexpected new arrival. A vet check back in Aug says she wasn't bred but nature proved him wrong. At least the cow has two good teats and set in a decent amount of milk. I may still need to supplement but will know for sure in a few days...
Medicated feed is not enough to treat coccidiosis, remove the medicated feed provide the birds with corrid in the water. Bloody stools are a dead give away for the problem.
Whatever works best for you is fine with me. I am cutting several birds loose getting into breeding season heavier and keeping only the cream. There are some good ones im cutting loose.
I could let a very nice Columbian OE breeder hen loose, it wont hurt me a bit.
Most of these pullets are Birchen, Silver Blue Rosecombs that did not put in much of an earlobe. I also have a Trio of SilverDuckwing Rosecombs
The Coturnix quail are great, they lay like mad, hatch like popcorn, grow and mature in 7 weeks. Surprises me every time they start laying as I can't believe they are old enough yet.
The Pheasants take a great deal more time to mature and grow to a good size, but the meat is outstanding. I am...
If anyone is interested I have a group of 20 Breeder Jumbo quail and a good number of Bantam hens I need to cut loose. Feel free to call.
NanaKat.
Olaf turned out great.
The following are the Duckwing bred Columbian, these make for better male line birds. The color sacrifice is the female as can be seen. I found this to be the most consistent for good colored males.
That was columbian over wheaton.
I started with columbian but were very weak in type.
Columbian over silverduckwing or bb red provides females that appear as silver quill.
They are very different gene set's that control egg color and comb type. The Single Comb is the most recessive, genetically, of all comb types and will only show itself when both parents in the mating carry the genes required for a single comb. They both must pass the gene set to produce the...
I should add I have been working on the variety in OE since 2007 / 2008 and have tried Silver Duckwing, Wheaton, and BB Red. They all work well but for the female color and pattern the wheaton works best, for males the Duckwing seemed to work best.
The cock posted above was bred directly from...
Below are some of my birds from 2012, they are a bit better in body, type and color at this point. These are all OEGB I also have a very solid start in the variety in Rosecomb.
I have a large number of extra Cockerels this year, but very few pullets. Feel Free to PM me if your interested in...
Toe punch works best for day old, then you can record matings based on the toe punch, band the good ones cull the rest. Take extensive notes on each mating as to culls and you will know what to duplicate or not do again.
I can e-mail you a copy in excel or word, but this is what I use for...
I have been quite pleasantly surprised by the offspring of the current generation work toward Birchen Rosecomb, I finally had a cockerel from last fall with good color and lobes but only a decent comb, I placed him over a few females from a back cross to Black again and have four young birds...
BB Red over SDW will result in Golden Duckwing cockerels, and BB Red pullets.
If you have a hard time getting a line of Birchen going or if you are really interested in a good male line I plan to let two Silver Blue cock line cockerels and one Birchen male line cockerel go quite soon. I have a...
