I haven't gotten any chickens yet, just in the planning stages. I do have a coop, but no run yet. I will have the chickens free in my yard as well when we are out. This may be a silly question, but do the runs have to have a top on them if they have a fenced in yard and their own fenced off...

Hello, I will soon be raising a few chickens in my backyard. I live in Indiana. My main reason is for pets and eggs. I don't plan on breeding them. What chickens are good egg producers that do well in our climate in the midwest?
