Hi everyone,
I'm moving to Virginia in a few days and we're in a bit of pickle. We won't be able to keep our white silkie pullet when we get there, and I'm not having any luck finding her a new home here in Florida (a few people off CL were supposed to come for her...

Thanks everyone for the kind words, it was a tough decision to come to. The reason she's pick up only is because we don't have access to a car that we can use to drop her off or meet up with anyone.
Hello all
We are moving unexpectedly several states away, the new city has sketchy chicken laws and we'll be living in another family's home until we get on our feet, so I'm going to have to rehome my pullet. She'll be one year old as of March, white silkie (pet quality). Decent layer, I've had...

Thanks ^^ I do have a thermometer/hydrometer thing (measures temp, humidity, inside/outside). Do you know if there's a time limit on how long the eggs can sit without being incubated and still be viable? I'm looking at probably a week and half.
I'm working on making a "styrofoam cooler" incubator. I really want it to be forced air, because I made an incubator years ago that wasn't and only got 2 hatched out of 36 eggs (although we did have a power outage early on, it was November, and the eggs were shipped to me, so that all may have...

Yep!! My Barred Rock lays zebra eggs, And someone here has a buff Brahma or Orpington, can't remember which, lays gold eggs.
While it's true that earlobe color does SEEM to coordinate with egg color in a lot of breeds like the leghorn and some others, this is simply NOT true. Some of us...
I was reading this article "5 Grocery Shopping Myths Busted" and the first entry was that brown eggs are not more nutritious than white eggs. It goes on to say "The color of the eggshell does not affect nutrition, but indicates the color of the birds feathers and earlobes. White eggs come from...
Yupp, it's funny like that. I used to end up with a new baby every batch. I got tired of the strict cleaning/sterilization stuff eventually though and forgot about it in my cabinet for about 6 months. Not pretty. Have fun though, lol!
Per my earlier post, we've decided to just say screw it and keep our rooster. Let's just pray I can get a job before anyone makes a bigger fuss about the crowing, once I'm gainfully employed I am buying LAND
Hope you're healing ok! Did they give you any pain meds??
I just got one wisdom tooth removed last month(I didn't even know I had them ) because it was infected. Scariest thing ever, but it was ok in the end.

Thank you! Right now we're looking at undeveloped land because you can get a lot for a little here, then we throw a trailer on it for a few years while we save up to build a house. Beats renting, that's for sure!
You got that right! And a place you can call your own
Damn skippy, I...

Most of our neighbors don't mind, we've even gotten a few compliments from some of the older peeps that do like to hear him. But it only takes one bad egg to ruin everything! Hopefully by next year we will own our own property out in the boonies xD
I hope you get what you want out in...
