Seven gorgeous, organically fed, Los Angeles urban hens. 3 black copper marans, 2 rhode island reds, 1 delaware, 1 easter egger.
We have to move and cannot keep our babies. It is a hundred bucks for all of them, or perhaps free under certain special, rare circumstances. This is emotional and...
Thanks guys, I've done some light research on river sand...what is your opinion on using straight soil besides that it's messy? Would sand be better?
Again, thanks a lot!
I have a concrete run and I liked to give the hens a section squared off which bit of a 'soil run...' they use it to dustbathe and scratch around. But recently I put cedar shavings on top which stated they were poultry safe, but stupid me put it down and I think my sweet Brigitte was poisoned I...
To everyone who responded:
I've read everything and all I can say is thank you a million times for being so understanding. I was expecting everyone to be very sympathetic, but this is beyond what I could ask for. You also offered ways I could improve my situation, as well as finding it in your...
I don't understand, I have a wonderful, clean, concrete free run environment w/clean, constantly changed dust free poultry cedar shavings, and a nice clean coop. They are free to roam during the day, she was eating fresh grass and feed and being her usual self yesterday. She was fine when I put...
I am sooo sorry, My dear RIR Duchess was also killed by a cat I believe [the claw marks were indisputable!]. They say they don't attack chickens most of the time but I've had an opposite experience. I'm glad you are going to get a replacement, but I totally feel for your loss. On the bright...
I have named her Morrissey. She is beautiful and sweet! So excited for saddle-leather colored eggs. It's so hard to find black maran pullets down here in southern California and finally found someone hatching! I'll post pictures soon, until then, Maran owners please feel free to enlighten me...
Right now I am choosing between Jersey Giant and California white. I am looking for good egg producers who won't make a lot of noise since I'm keeping them in city limits
I was watering my tomatoes when it happened so I sprayed the cat with a high pressure hose. At that point he actually ran away but he wasn't afraid of my dog at all! I wouldn't want to take him to the pound but I am worried about what he will do/has done. I guess I will just put my birds away...
Do you have any suggestions for methods? I don't know if the cat belongs to anyone so I don't want to cause trouble...but I'll do anything to keep my hens safe. Should I try to
bring it to the pound?
Thanks
An unknown, neighborhood cat showed up in my yard today. He was clearly examining the situation. He looks well fed but I am still suspicious since I lost my dear RIR Duchess to an unknown predator [which clearly had claws, could be a racoon or opossum...] but I'm still worried. They are free run...
