There seem to be very knowledgeable SLW owners in this thread and so I was hoping you might weigh in. Is this a hen or roo? This chick is 6 weeks old. Thanks!
Ok, I thought it would be a good time for an update. Here are the latest pictures from this weekend. She/He carries her/his tail low sometimes, but I caught a few when it was up. This Wyandotte is almost 5 weeks old.
I have an Australorp that is now 1 month old and still looks like a chick. She seems healthy in every other way, fighting over food and putting on all her new feathers. The other chickens are nearly 3 times her size though. The breed itself is larger and so I am puzzled. She is no bigger than my...
Hello Fellows,
The year before last, our hens were infected with dry Foul Pox and it nearly killed one of them. Now that we are starting again with chicks and have learned of this disease, I am taking precautions and have purchased the Foul Pox Vaccine. The issue I am having is that the...
Thanks. I overbought, just in case some turned out to be Roos. I needed 3 and have 5. I do not have another Wyandotte to compare it to though and I will be sad if my only one is a Roo.
He/She might be a bit older. He/She is almost double the size of the Barred Rock that she is supposed to be the same age as. Tail feathers came in early. Neck/Cape feathers are just starting to come in.
Thank you for the links. They were very helpful. She definitely looks as bad off as the chicken that can no longer see. Heartbreaking. I ran to the store and bought her baby food, which she ate some of, and the iodine. I got her to drink a bit of water too.
I have this coup and would not recommend purchasing it. It is poorly made and does not fit together well. Additionally, it is super heavy and isn't easy to clean, especially for one person. Just my two cents.
Both of my chickens have chicken pox. One barely has any warts/bumps on it's comb or eye area. The other has such bad pox that she can no longer see out of either eye. Due to the lack of eye sight, this morning she is no longer eating or drinking. We all know what that means.
Is there anything...
It appears that I may have received this coop as a Christmas Gift!!! So excited. It was the only thing I asked for and because of the odd triangular shape/size beside the tree, it must be! :) I will let you know what I think in a few weeks. We won't be able to get chicks until then.
Hello. I am also considering purchasing this coop. I have been unable to find a single review, which of course makes me leery. The price tag is steep too of course. Did you end up purchasing it and if so, what are your thoughts? I have also looked into the other resin/plastic coop by Omlet...
We have a veggie garden, berry patches, flower beds, etc that we need to fertilize (using 10-10-10 granules). Does anyone know if this would hurt the chickens or make them sick? We never use any weed killers or any other chemicals on our lawn of course.
