They are about 9 months old. I do see some black spots on a couple of their combs. Thats dried blood then? What if anything should I do about it? Should I be worried? Also, there is no rooster. I live in the suburbs so I only have hens. Thanks so much for your help.
The past two days I have found blood on the feeder. Quite a bit too. It's just a hanging plastic one from TSC. I thought maybe they were getting cut from the hook that hangs the feeder but I don't see any blood on it. I can't see any injuries on the chickens at all, just a few spots of blood on...
I have a Barred Rock that's been laying since 22 weeks, black star started at 27 weeks and now either my GL Wyandotte or BO has finally started at 31 weeks! The other two are an EE and either the BO or GL Wyandotte and they are also 31 weeks and still not laying. I bet yours will start soon. I...
Yes! Got my second first egg! My 28 week old black sex-link layed her first egg. Now if the others which are 28 and 29 weeks will start. First 2/5 laying day.
Oh I feel your pain. I have 5 pullets. One started laying at 22 weeks, the other four still haven't layed a thing and they are all over 27 weeks now. I'm beginning to wonder if they will wait until spring too.
My barred rock started laying at 22 weeks and has been faithfully laying almost daily, but my other four still aren't laying. They are 26 and 27 weeks old. I have a GL Wyandotte, BO, Black sex link, and an EE. They all seem to be maturing a lot slower than the BR did for some reason. They all...
Awesome colors! Looks like you're getting pretty big eggs too. Only 1/5 of my pullets is laying, but I can't wait until I get some color variety in my eggs too. My slackers are 26 weeks too!
Nice eggs everyone! We got our first egg on Sunday! Our Barred Rock Chica layed it, she was 22 weeks and 4 days old. I think it's pretty big for her first one. It's a nice brown and has a bunch of white speckles.
I am also in Texas and the coop and run has yet to see rain in the last 4 months. I kind of figured it would be better to have the food in the run so the poop won't accumulate as quickly in the coop. My feeder hangs under one side of the coop in the middle of the run. I'm fairly certain only...
I waiting too. Seems like forever! My Barred Rock will be 20 weeks tomorrow and her comb and waddle is really red. The other four are 3 and 4 weeks behind her. They are all getting very vocal lately too. I put golf balls in the nesting boxes. Do you all use golf balls, or should I put fake eggs...
Thank you all for the replies. I went ahead and bought another bag of starter/grower and some oyster shells so I'll have some when the oldest starts laying. Then in a month or so they'll be ready for the layer pellets. I was kind of worried about soft or thin shells if she doesn't have enough...
I need help on which feed to give my chickens. My barred rock is 18 weeks, two of my others are 15 weeks, and two are 14 weeks. Is it ok to start them all on layer or should I wait a few weeks? Thanks for your help, this is my first go round with chickens.
Well three out of four of our 12 week old chickens turned out to be cockerels. We aren't allowed roosters in our town so we had to get rid of them. We added four new pullets on Saturday, a Buff Orpington, Ameraucana, Black Star, and Golden-laced Wyandotte. Two are 9 weeks and two are 8 weeks. I...
