Just received an order from Murray McMurray to supplement our flock, especially our Araucanas (looking to get a few blue egg layers) and adding a few other desired breeds (Buff Orp, White Giant, Delaware and Barred Rock). As always, very healthy chicks!
Anybody in the Washington, PA area with Araucana/Americana/Easter Egger eggs (no mix breed please) available for sale?
Please contact me. I have a broody and would love to hatch about half dozen. Let me know price and whether we can meet somewhere to exchange.

We finally finished our first large coop, which replaces smaller coops we've built over the years. It houses our 17 hens and two roos.

As many of you know, I swear by my Moultrie 4.0 IR game cam in the chicken coop area to monitor predators. Over the past two years, my camera has taken some really awesome shots of our local wildlife! Many folks have expressed interest in game cams and have asked me about my game cam along with...
Stacey and I processed our first chicken a few weeks ago. We had 2 extra young roosters, so we thought we'd try our hand at producing our own roaster. Our largest Buff Orpington rooster provided dinner with our girls!
I spared you guys any real graphic photos. Overall, It went very well and we...
Do to my inability to sex a chicken, even at 18 weeks, I have the following question. We have 2 Buff Orps that I cannot seem to sex. They are 18 weeks old and have never crowed but have had Roo-ish features from a young age.
Today my EE rooster mated one of the Orps. This one specifically...
We're in the process of opening up another acre on our property for a larger garden, fruit trees and some extra living space. The basic idea is to increase our self sufficiency. We also created a nice western facing area for a future patio area to watch sunsets. After 2 days of bulldozing, we...
Our Delaware mix hen has been sitting on 4 of our green Easter Egger eggs. One hatched yesterday and is all yellow. I'm assuming that means it's going to be mainly white in coloring. Here's a picture of momma and baby!
Three more eggs to go...will update!
Update: 3 of 4 EE eggs hatched...
Over the last year we had a regular at our range feeder that I assumed was a yearling doe. She was short and scrawny. I think she's back but SHE is apparently a HE!
Well, it didn't take that long for my broody hen, Churkey, to get stir crazy from the brooder. Last time, I thought she stayed a little longer but she's insisting on taking her two chicks out into the world and into the big coop with the rest of the chickens.
Mama knows best, she's done this...
Our hen, Churkey, has hatched half her eggs and today she was not sitting on them but she had buried them in the hay deep on the other side of the brooder. The brooder is in our garage and away from the other chickens.
Does burying them and not sitting on them necessarily mean she has given...
We decided to hatch some chicks this year for friends and also wanted to add a few Buff Orps to our flock.
We got 4 Buff Orp eggs from hinkjc (Jody) and placed them under Churkey along with 3 of our EE eggs, and an assortment of BR and RIR crosses with our EE rooster. All in all, 10 eggs...
So, I get my broody delaware mix hen, Churkey, 4 Buff Orpington eggs to hatch. I also throw a few EE eggs in there to hatch for a friend.
Here she is happily sitting on her eggs in the coop:
Unfortunately, every day I check on her, she has hoarded another egg or two and added them to her...
I attended our local TEA party. I was pleasantly surprised by turnout and the nice cross section of folks also fed up with government's wasteful spending. Rose Somma Tennent from the Quinn and Rose Show hosted our local event. Overall a nice peaceful display of concern by the good citizens of...
SpeckledHills asked me to post information on the Game Cam that I use to monitor predators in the coop area. Since I free range, predator control becomes that more important.
