Looks like something took a bite of the chicken... Will she live?

I came home to find a chunk of my approx 2 mos old chicken missing. I had her in a kennel with two other hatches so the older hens would not peck at them. What can I do to help her live?

    feather plucking

I have similar pecking issues and the purple goo that I bought is called Rooster Booster Pick-No-More Cover Up Lotion. I don't have roosters... this works with hens too. In addition to the lotion, we've been giving the hens more free range time and and occasional extra snacks for pecking (i.e...

can you help my baby chick?

I posted this in another section and found that yes that's the umbilical cord area. Never had one hatch like that, but this is only my second time incubating. After I cleared it out of the hatching debris, decreased the humidity, and put her back in, she seems to be doing much better. She's...

Need help with newly hatched chick

This was not an assisted hatch. I've never seen a belly button like that before. Wow, good to know! This is my second time incubating and wasn't home when this one came out. It seems to be picking up a little energy, but still not strong like the others. Will continue keeping it separated. I am...

Need help with newly hatched chick

Thanks Justin for giving me some hope for this little one. It seems so weak compared to the others and none of the others have a bulge like that. Will just keep a close watch on it and see what happens.

Need help with newly hatched chick

I've got a chick that hatched today that appears to have an infection on its lower abdomen area from some kind of cut. Not sure if another chick pecked at it or if it was like that in the shell. Please take a look at my pic and let me know if you have seen somthing like that before. Can this...

can you help my baby chick?

I have a hatchling less than 24 hours old who appears to have a cut near her (or his) lower tummy area. Can this chick be saved? I have placed a small napkin over the cut area and swaddled the chick in a wash cloth. It didn't appear to be doing well leaving it in the incubator and I was...

whats the easiest way to find a new home for roosters?

I have two polish bantams that need to go. For those that were unable to have chickens for dinner, what's the easiest method for finding a home for roosters. We are new to backyard chickens and apparently I don't have enough posts to post in the buy/sell area here. I sent a message to our 4-H...

What's up with my baby silkie's feathers?

My silkie's wing feathers look a bit unusual. Is this normal for silkies? I know how they should look as adult, but have seen a baby one until we hatched ours. Hopefully, this picture will post as it it my first time uploading one to this forum. Thanks!

time question from pip to hatch

Out of curiosity, what's the longest it's taken for one of your chicks to hatch after its first pip from the shell?

temperature dived to 65 on day 20... any chance of survival?

Well, the one chick continues to pip and the crack is getting larger. I can see a good section of the chick as well as its entire beak as it tries to break from its shell. It seems like its taking an extraordinarily long time. Still no movement from any of the other eggs.

temperature dived to 65 on day 20... any chance of survival?

I noticed some movement in the one egg that pipped. Looks like there is hope. Still, with all that stress they went through, I'll have to wait and see.

temperature dived to 65 on day 20... any chance of survival?

On Day 20 of incubation, the incubator heater stopped working. Not sure how long the temp has been like this, but was okay about 8 hours ago. My husband caught this at 5AM while getting ready for work. One had already started pipping. The temperature was 65 and humidity 99. After moving the...

Hello from Colorado (chicks getting ready to hatch!)

Hey Arvada! I'm in Colorado Springs. I ordered a bantam mix and a standard mix. Not sure about all the breeds, but I know there's a couple silkies, a black maran, and an Acuna. I'd have to re-check the breed codes on the other ones.

Hello from Colorado (chicks getting ready to hatch!)

Hi there! I just joined this forum today and am on the last three (or so) days of incubation. Today is day 19 and I found one pip hole, but it hasn't increased yet. Every so often, I hear a chirping sound coming from the incubator. This is my first hatch ever so I'm a bit excited. I started...
