    Gender?

Hatched from Metzer welsh harlequin eggs first week in June. Have not heard a single quack, and their chatter sounds breathy but not hoarse or raspy. Visually I’d guess female, but their vocalizations are throwing me off. 🤔 Any educated guesses welcome, haha.

    Could it still hatch?

The egg in question is a standard sized EE egg on day 24 under broody. Bantam egg from same setting hatched Sat at noon. My chickens all run together so dad could possibly be a bantam. I picked up egg from under broody to check it out and as I slowly turned it I felt a "plop" within the egg...

Sexing silkie x buff brahma bantam hatchling

My broody just hatched out a chick. The crossing was a partridge silkie roo and a buff brahma bantam hen. The little one is colored like a mottled buff brahma chick (if that makes any sense) and has 5 yellow toes. Doesn't appear to have a beard or crest. Is there any way to sex this chick...

    Washing a broody hen?

I have a silkie hen sitting on a couple of eggs and she has made quite a mess of her nest. She has major poopy-butt too. I do not have an incubator, but I feel she REALLY needs to be cleaned up. Also, I would like to replace her nest with fresh hay. What would be the best way to go about...

    Revolution for lice?

One of my 17 birds has lice. I have bathed, dusted, and sprayed Poultry Protector on all the birds since Sept. Is there a topical (such as kitten revolution) I can try on this bird? Or essential oil repellants? Spending $80 on bovine injectable is out of the question. Thanks in advance!

***Free Silkie Cockerels 6/7 months old 1 partridge and 1 white***

I have 2 young silkie cockerels in search of their own ladies. Gorgeous partridge 7 months old. Really loves the ladies, but not getting chased by their roo. White 6 months old. Getting full of himself. Hatched with only 4 toes on one foot. Both free to good home. Pick up only.

    Hurricane Irene Showgirl, Any Ideas?

So, all 18 of my chickens survived. All but one seem just fine. My Showgirl is limping, developed lice, and a crusty eye. The last few days I have been treating the eye with warm compress and terramycin ointment. It started off goopy, then swollen, and this morning was crusted shut but not...

    Desperately seeking russian orloff breeders...

I am looking for a breeder of russian orloff chickens in NY state or within a reasonable driving distance. I would prefer the spangled variety but am keeping my options open as I am having a hard time locating any. Thank you in advance to all responses.

3 month old rouens and a cayuga Question

Hi! I have two rouens and a cayuga. They are about 3 months old. One of the rouens is a loud quaker (figuring as female), the cayuga quacks but not nearly as loud (still figuring as female). The other rouen doesn't seem to make any noise beyond squeeking (male?). My question is at what age...

    Failing to thrive silkie chick

I was wondering if I could get some suggestions for a two week old silkie chick that isn't thriving? They are all fed a 20% protein starter crumble in which I mix some diatomaceous earth and water with some Bragg's apple cider vinegar in it. This chick is now about half the size of the others...

    Bloody stool but acting fine!

This is my first year raising chicks. I started off with a few silkies, and hunt around for others to add to my just starting back yard flock. I have gotten a few additional started chicks along the way from NPIP certified stock and/or organically raised stock. All the parent flocks seem to...
