Well I was wondering how the nest thing was going to work out, as 2 of my geese kept laying in the same nest. Today I had to end up separating the Toulouse pair from the American Buff pair, as there were totally bullying the gander. When I did this, the American goose sat on her eggs. I just...
Just to be clear, I never used the branch to poke at them. I used it as an extension of my arm, to wall off an area, incase they decided they wanted to go in that direction, then I would take baby steps toward them to make them move away from me toward the run. They would not come with treats...
I have 9 eggs in the nest now. I am sure the American Buff and the Italian/Skåke mix are laying eggs, but they are using the same nest. How does that work? The Toulouse might be laying, but I have not seen her do it yet. Anyways, I am planning of removing a few and try my hand at hatching them...
Oh, that's good to know. I have a sensor light that goes off if there is movement. I often see it on in the middle of the night, either set off by the fox or the geese. I can arrange for another lamp, if that is going to make them come in. I usually have the coop light on, but they refuse to go...
Well I have a partial answer. Right after I posed my question, the little suckers decided to come home. I saw them get out of the water and begin to walk up the garden, but then they stopped to feed on the grass. I decided I need to hurry them along, as it is foxing hour. I am in Sweden, so it's...
I have a pair of Toulouse geese, a pair of American Buff, and an Italian Skåne mix female. I just got them over a week ago, and I know that at least 2 of the 3 females are laying eggs. Each evening we walk them to the run, and they seem to get the idea. Yesterday, they decided they wanted to...
My American Buff is hanging low, but just on one side. Is this for the same reason? I just became a geese owner 4 days ago, so just learning the ropes ;)
Thanks for the info. Interestingly enough, I had been looking for white turkeys, but could not find any, so now I'm happy :) I'm so in love with this guys already. Their temperament is so lovely. They are just so cool. I had to get rid of the tom and the 3 hens. I had them for 2 weeks, when 1 of...
I have just hatched 9 turkey chicks, and 4 of them are solid yellow. Two of them are dark stripped and then two are lightly stripped. The parents were brown bronze, so I was not expecting the yellow chicks. Is this something that is common?
I noticed this hen was not following the rest of the pack 2 weeks ago. She started to just stay in the run and rest. She was eating and drinking, and I did not notice anything else different. She is part of a new group that I introduced 2 months ago.
Anyways, a couple days ago I noticed that...
Well I was expecting my hatch to happen on June 26th, 3 days ago. When I candled the eggs, they seemed to all be alive, so I waited and waited. Last night one finally hatched. This morning another came out, and there are several more on their way.
To give a little back story, I started with 16...
I am a bit late answering, maybe you can update now. First off, I would say a Yokohama mix at most. Yokohama males usually have tail feathers longer then females at this age. My guess it is a male.
I have 2 hens sitting on eggs, and it is now day 26 with no pips in any of the eggs. I have already candled them and can see that the eggs are developed.
I spot check my chickens to see if they are showing signs of pests. The huge mistake I made was that I did not check each and everyone each time. I assumed if one had it, they all did. Anyways, while doing a routine deworming, I knoticed that one of my roosters was horribly thin. After checking...
Thanks for you reply. I spoke to a vet nurse, and she thinks it is unlikely, as it is middle of winter here in Sweden. She thinks my chickens were under dosed when I last wormed them, and that this chicken has a bad case of worms. I have checked more of her droppings. There are no blood spots in...
My son noticed his favourite hen had poop on her feathers. At first he thought and egg had broken, as he said it looked slimy like egg white. So after he bathed her, he dried her and let her walk about. Then she had 2 droppings that were both watery and had blood spots in them. This hen is about...
I have been looking online to see if I can find a picture of the bugs on one of our roosters. The rooster is on his way to the pot, but when my husband was cleaning him, he found all these white flea like bugs crawling on him. They just don't look like the pictures of mites I see, nor lice. What...
