Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

Hi Pink! Thanks for responding! Everything is going pretty well around here and I hope it's the same with you. I will mate these girls back to their dad and he has tons of color. You might remember that this guy is the Osio rooster i had shipped to me. The one girl that's laying is giving me...

Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

Hi! Wanted to drop by and see if I can get some comments on these two girls. They are the first generation of my dark egg project and have taken me from 4/5's to 5/6's, so I'll be a while working on it. Being that it's just an egg project I'm not supposed to care so much about the bird, right...

Farmersville is located half way (17 miles) between McKinney and Greenville on Hwy. 380. I will be when I decide which three to keep. Right now the foundation girls start out at 4's to 5's when they first start their laying cycle. I had a Blue Copper rooster shipped to me from a lady that...

I have Black and Blue Copper Marans and Lavender Ameraucanas. Both are pure breeds if that's what you're interested in.

    Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

I do raise Marans and my girls are doing exactly that now. This sounds more logical for these Lavs because the breeder wasn't sure if they were laying when I bought them. They started laying about a week and a half or two after I brought them home and they laid that greenish egg up until they...

    Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

Don't think that's the case. I'm definitely seeing a bit of color change. Sure can't knock them because they have a much better hatch rate than I do.

    Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

My foundation girls have just started laying again after all being broody at the same time. All of them did well with two nest and them piling up. Most of the eggs they laid and set had a green hue to them, but after they started laying again they all are a really nice blue color. Never heard of...

Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

Sorry, I just got back to this thread. I'm with Donna, I think they are just too young to tell at this stage and I'm looking at a monitor. In that 3-4 week age they should show more comb. I have some out there now that are the age of yours and I still can't tell. Did you read earlier where I...

Katie, #1 is a pullet and the others need better pics for me to guess.

Dan, I don't happen along often, but I'll take my stab. #1 pullet, #2 and 3 cockerels. Mind you, I suck at sexing until later on.:D

I have a Facebook page but I haven't started keeping up with this project. Hard to keep people interested when you have to wait 6 months between phases. lol

I have sold them in the past. At the moment I have two of the four girls separated from the rooster because they were going broody for the second time this season. I already have a bunch of chicks and didn't want more. My Marans are not bred for SOP birds. Instead, I am using them as a dark egg...

I've talked to the people in Terrell before and learned that they order chicks out of a hatchery in New Mexico. I raise Ameraucana, Barred Rocks, Wyandotte and Marans and they all get along well in our area.

I've made my 10' x 5' breeding pens like these sans the door. The PVC pipe and couplings were around $30. I used 2" x 4" welded wire and bought it in 100' rolls. To completely cover the structure it took approx. 48'. The one end I covered took another 5'. Cost of the wire was around $60. Main...

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

With the few that I've hatched feather sexing hasn't worked. They are not from a hatchery, tho.

One thing I found with my lavs was after they all went broody and started laying again, the eggs are more blue.
