I put eggs in the incubator, finally. There are 28 eggs in my 24 egg incubator, plus the extra (one that I trust) thermometer/hygrometer. It has spiked atm because I opened the lid to be sure of my egg count. Yeah, I didn't know. :gig I already tossed two silkie ones for leaking/weeping (no...
I try to keep mine at 99.5, but it's tricky. My own fault--not blaming the incubator. I keep it in the utility room where the temp is up and down a lot. I do this so I won't forget to check on it. I'm getting to be worryingly forgetful.
I wrap the base in a fleece jacket, and sometimes...
I love that part of the country. Here it's mostly conifers and a few aspens and birch thrown in. I love it here, too, but it's tricky to grow anything but animals--and expensive too, with so much of the year under snow so it's up to me to feed them. Can you imagine us moving, though? We'd need...
Yeah, I know! Every year about this time we start talking about moving somewhere warmer. Not too warm because of my highly impractical cows, but warmer--like the Ozarks, maybe. We're getting too old for so much cold.
In summer and fall we have 4-wheelers going by a lot on the trail. DH doesn't like it. He's a hermit at heart. 😂 None of them complain, though. They just stare at the funny cows. I really hope the three girls are pregnant, 'cause they sure have been eating a LOT this winter. They gotta be...
My rooster of choice is still shy, I guess. No targets in the breakfast eggies yet. I guess I'll have to hang out and drool over ya'll's babies. Way too cold to order in the eggs I've been longing for on ebay. 😢 (Plus I already have too many birds...) 😯
Mine has around thirty gals, but not maybe a only half dozen laying as of yet. I'm not giving them light, however they're in the greenhouse so they're getting all the daylight there is. I have enough eggs and many to spare--just no little wigglers apparently--not from this rooster. I'll give him...
My eggs this a.m. were not fertile 😢 I already hatched 18 chicks from a different rooster (but those are for food). I think maybe the original roo is a little bit more randy. This is the second rooster after I took #1 out and nothing so far. At least this one isn't getting beat up by the girls...
Well... I'm gonna head for bed. Super late where you are! I enjoyed chatting with you and I'll let you know whether I find any targets. Not sure he's been in there long enough to show up in the eggs, but I'll let you know what I see (or don't) in my breakfast eggs. :frow
Oh no! How awful! I've only ever ordered in twice and both times I didn't have a stellar hatch rate but they did get here on time. I've heard those big city hubs can be brutal.
Nice! So not too far from you. I wouldn't dare order in eggs this time of year where I live. They'd most likely freeze. I hope yours will be well-treated and kept cool.
