Finished with first hatch!
Set 10 eggs on Dec 19
9 Went to lock down
3 yellow/4 black chicks!
70% Hatch rate for first attempt
I am going to call this a success!
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge.
2 yellow/ 3 black chicks, 1 pip, 3 quiet
I guess I shouldn't be upset with the 3 loafers they aren't even due until 9am tomorrow.
Everybody else is early.
I am laying in bed and my 10 year old daughter walks into the room. We hear "PEEP" my daughter looks at me and looks outside, looks back at me her eyes get wide and she yells "CHICKS!" and runs over to the bator. Sure enough 4 pips!
Quote:
What kind of bator? I have a styrofoam (LG) and when it drops I wrap towels around it. It helps to keep the temp up.
Its an LG. I guess I am confused why the temperature would stay constant for 2 weeks and now decide to drop 4-5 degrees?
I went ahead and tweaked the temp up. I hope...
Should I fiddle??
Ever since lock down yesterday at 9:30am my humidity is bumped up to 70-75% but my temperature has gone down and has been running at 94.8?
I am afraid to tweak the temperature thinking I will come back in an hour and find it spiked to 107 or something?
Leave the temp alone...
Ok .......9:30 am 1/6/2010 is lockdown
Bump it up to 65% humidity?
(lg 9200 with fan) do I leave the fan on during the whole lockdown/hatching process?
I candled all 10 eggs last night at 60 hours. All eggs had a yolk size dark spot that was not there when we put them in. I could not make out any veins for sure. Will look again tonight.
This is my first hatch. I am incubating 10 mutts from my own chickens. Due Jan 9 . I met a person at church who had an incubator (little giant 9200) that he wasn't using so I traded him some laying hens. After reading several hundred posts in this section I modified the bater (added a fan)...
