had to edit the other one was confusing
You should use periods and commas, and capitalize the first letter of each new sentence. Makes it much less confusing, and you will probably get more replies to your posts if they are more understandable.
Hi Bethany. Just saw the neighborhood email list and realized that we're neighbors!big_smile

LOL, thats neat! I'd love to see your coop sometime!
~Bethany
So about 9:30 I am in the shower and I think "Hmmm, wasn't I going to meet someone special today? Now who was it? It was someone I hadn't seen in person before...someone on Facebook? No....hmmm.....OMG!!!! BYC coffee!!!" Dumb me!!! I totally slept in. I guess I like my Saturday mornings too...
Is it possible to pick out the chicks that hold more to the standard and would be good show chickens? Or is it basically a crap shoot at this age?
If it is possible, is there a website that has pictures and descriptions of the markings and shapes, etc to check for?
TT1- thanks for the pics...I think Ive got them sorted out now! The gray/black chipmunks are the SLW, the red/brown chipmunks w/ red tip beaks are SS, the black with yellow spot on head are PR, the ones with green colored on their heads are CM, and the ugly odd leftovers are the "Ameraucanas"...
Let's meet at Coffee Rush, 8am, Baseline and Gilbert. Right off the freeway, next to PetCo, across the street from Trader Joes; can combine errands!
I'll be there for sure this time! Excited to meet you guys!!
You know, I'm not 100% sure on the breeds/colors yet. I need to sit down, print out some pics and figure it out. I know the ones with the green marks on their heads are the Cuckoo Marans. I assume the blonde-ish ones are the Easter Eggers ("Ameracaunas" grr) ...and then that blond/ash chipmink...
They're here, they're here!
Oh my goodness, my hands were SHAKING as I drove to the post office to pick them up!! But now that they are home, I'm wondering what all the fuss is about?! They are beautiful, lively, happy little chicks!!! They drank their water, ate some food, are...
Well, thats just nice...how can they use the word Ameraucana if they actually AREN'T? Bah. Not that I mind THAT much, but still, they should be honest in their post. Especially since they go all into the history of the bird and make it sound like its legit.
Zip ties! That could work...but...
turkeybreeder: I ordered them Cackle Hatchery: http://www.cacklehatchery.com/araucana.html It says Ameraucana, but it also says "Easter Egg Chicken" Hmmm.
mclevinson: Sharpie on the feathers...thats a good idea!
So where can I find chick leg bands? Would Pet Club or Mesa Feed have them...
Weird question...I'm getting 5 different breeds of chicks, 25 chicks total. They'll be separated in the shipping box by breed, but I only have one brooder/one feeder/one waterer, etc. So they'll all be dumped in there together. I am only keeping 1 chick of each breed, so I need a way to know...
Such pretty Easter-y Eggs!!!
My grandpa has a fig tree, pomegranate, apricot, citrus, date tree, etc. We had a blood orange tree. SO DELISH! No one ever has those.
Only one thing can decimate a vegi garden better than hungry chickens. My 6 year old.
YES! My 2yo DD picked our ONLY big fat tomato and it wasn't even red yet. She thought it was an apple.
And I keep missing coffee time!!! Gah, for sure I'm going to make it this Saturday, lol. And maybe...
I personally would NOT vaccinate against Newcastle. Should an epidemic of Exotic Newcastle occur and they test your birds, ones that are vaccinated for Newcastle would test positive and be depopulated.
How could that be? If you kept documentation of vaccinating them, wouldn't that be enough to...
I have some info at home on how they raise rabbits in other countries, but couldn't anything online to share with you. I remember one system uses basically a small underground (barely) wine-cellar-looking room lined with large stones and covered with sod, and attached to a "standard" cage above...
I'm considering having DH build a rabbit hutch with its own small run right next to the chicken coop, but having a small connecting door that attaches to the chicken run. So they could roam around both if they wanted to, but the chickens couldn't come in their area. We are going to bury chicken...
Now that you mention it, why yes, as a matter of fact, I do have rabbits. LOL lol
We use large all-wire cages from Bass Equipment, with carpets, boards, and/or feed bags on top and sides as needed for shade. For now, they set on cinder blocks against the house or shed, which isn't great but...
