i kept humidity around 40% during incubation, turned the eggs until 3 days prior to hatching. last few days i raised humidity to 70%. humidity did vary from time to time but minly it dropped below 40% into the mid 30% range and i add more water. eggs are gathered a week before they go in so 5...
OK ,
so i'm done with my hatching .out of 50 eggs, i got 7 baby quail. 6 a&m and 1 brown courtnix. i broke the other eggs open and its all the browns, they just never came out? they were all formed little quail, just couldnt get out of their shells i guess. a few had broken thru the shell and...
i havent looked at the eggs but i will tomorrow. i havent had anything hatch in 2 days so im sure there all done now. i was gonna take everything apart tomorrow and clean it up i'll check the eggs first and see whats going on with them.and that would make sense s hes a bit smaller than the hens...
oh also my setup is a cooler, inside i have a 12v fan about 4 inches from a 60 watt bulb which is about 1 inch from a hot water heater thermostat that i drilled out the holes so it would read temp faster. inside i have a jar with river rocks in it that i fill with water for humidity and use as a...
ok next time i'll keep humidity a little higher, and i have a 20$ KTJ hydro/thermo i got from amazon i think. it has the wire lead /probe that goes in the incubator and the display can be outside. Any ideas on why only the A&M's are hatching? that seems really weird to me.
ok so my hatch is done. this was my second try. i have lots of questions. i been watching youtube vids and people are hatching quail with cheaper looking homemades than mine.seen 1 person had the temp way up at 105.anyway my first go i had 9 eggs and 2 hatched but they died in brooder.so i...
well i got up this morning and one of my chicks was gasping his last breath, i had 7 eggs hatch of the 23 in the bator :( but 2 did quick i have 2 that are bumble footed but they still hope around. theone that was really bad we did the medical tape thing on its' feet , it took the tape off...
well, the eggs i put in the incubator on the 11th started hatching yesterday, i have 5 so far 3 looking great.1 had what looked like and imbilical cord hanging from it, and another just looks weak but he seems to be getting better. theres 1 egg in there thats been cracked for a 24 hour period...
this post and the post by quailjailer got me to looking ( i guess i just brought it home and plugged it in :) i looked for a hole to add water and saw a weird hole i jst figured was a frsh air hole before just bigger, so i took the top off and pulled the turner out (i didnt take the turner...
someone loaned me a still air incubator, it has the auto egg rotator thing i have got it up to temp but my humidity is at 35%
theres nowhere to sit a cup of water or sponge as the turner covers the whole thing what do you use to raise humidity?
Thanks John
im in Ocala/Silver Springs Florida
i think alot of my problem is my fingers, i was a diesel mechanic for 25 years and my fingers are kinda numbed out and a bit of arthritis in a few knuckles so i kinda bumble around in there i guess.
my concern is having the lid off the incubator drops the...
i have 30 in a styro foam cooler sitting end on end so im leaning them 45 degrees on way then 45 deg the other way but tis crowded and their sitting on 1/4 in square material so when i lean 1 or two a different one falls lol its kind of a pain to do. i rolled my last batch of 9 and only 2...
ok my next question, i dont have an auto turner so everyday i have to open the cooler and move the eggs manually, this take probably 3 minutes maybe 5. the temp usually drops to about 96.5 during this. is this going to effect the hatch rate? and how oftn daily should i turn them? is once daily...
ok i got the temperature variances down in my home made incubator finally, i drilled bigger holes in the thermo and moved it closer to the light bulb. I'm varying between 99.5 to 100.9 so not to bad i guess. Idhound, are you saying if i use a red light the chicks wont bite each others feet...
ok i hate to keep asking the same thing over but im gonna put 20 eggs in the incubator tomorrow morning then 5 or 6 a day(depending on how many they lay as it varies) for the next few days. trying to get a better hatch rate this time . i am gonna move my fan closer to my light bulb and...
well, i went over to visit with my parents today and when i got home my little a&m was dead also. im not sure whats going on. its 100 degrees everytime i check. I am using a reptile light bulb would that make difference? i cant figure out why the little guys are dying. i am taking them out of...
